Brazil played against Paraguay in their last Conmebol 2026 World Cup qualifiers game for September. Their first game was against Ecuador, where Rodrygo’s lone goal gave them the win. Dorival Junior was anticipating him to replicate the same performance in their tricky game against Paraguay.
However, it wasn’t so. The South American Giants found themselves behind and they were unable to provide any response till the end of the game. Selecao lost 1 nil to Paraguay.
Brazil vs. Paraguay Recap
Brazil entered the game with the hopes of getting a comfortable win against Paraguay. This allowed them to try and take control of the game. However, Paraguay didn’t allow much of that. Soon Selecao found themselves behind after a beautiful long-range effort from Diego Gomez. The goal changed the game dynamics for the Brazilian team. Dorival Junior’s boys tried to put in more pressure. Chances fell into the path of the likes of Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo, however, they couldn’t find the net. At the end of 90 minutes plus stoppages, Selecao lost one nil.
Dorival Junior Takes the Blame
Brazil’s Coach took the blame upon himself over the game. The 62-year-old said: “We lacked a lot of things. I’m responsible for that and I don’t want to single out any player,” he continued saying, “It’s not simple, it’s not easy, but we have to intensify our work so that we can quickly find that path, We lost a lot in that instant and we lost the first half without coming close to the opponent’s goal,”
Dorival Junior continued his analysis of the game saying: “In 30 or 35 minutes you do little. We attacked very little, and we had very few approaches to Paraguay’s goal. We paid a very high price for that,”
Vinicius Jr. Apologizes Over the Game
Vinicius came out in humility to address the fans who took their time to watch the game. He said: “We apologize to the fans, who are always on our side, But this is a difficult time, we just want to improve. I know my potential, I know what I can do for the national team. Of course, it’s been a very difficult process, because when you don’t have confidence, you don’t get goals, you don’t get assists and good performances.”
He further continued on the coach’s efforts, saying: “The coach is still figuring out the best way for us to play and that’s reflected in the result, There are a lot of new players; we are lacking confidence.”
He finally added saying: “We cannot come here, lose these points, and play the way we did,” he added. “It is a difficult time; we must take on board all the criticism and return as quickly as possible to put Brazil on top.”
