Boston Red Sox Stir Up A Competitive AL East

Boston Red Sox

While the New York Yankees have taken over the top spot in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox and Orioles duke it out in Baltimore. The season is heating up for the Red Sox, what type of momentum are they building? Baseball fans want to know if they have the stamina and strength in the bullpen to finish the season on top. Last night and this series, has an honorable showing of what the Boston Red Sox are made of. A glimmer of hope for what will become of this season.

Pitchers Are Perky and Potent

This is everything a baseball fan wants, hot summer heat, full stadiums, and America’s greatest pastime to remind us all why we fell in love with baseball in the first place. Oriole Park at Camden Yards was full last night. Even with a rain delay, the fans came out to see what would become of the Yankees’ new move to the top of the AL East this week. Only one game behind first place and Baltimore at home, the Boston Red Sox came to remind the AL East: We are not going quietly.

The two pitchers were on fire last night. Brayan Bello and Cade Povich, who made a return from the minors, reminded fans what the game is all about. As baseball fans, we certainly love home runs, action, and enticing quick plays, but to watch a pitcher, never mind two in one game, create a harmonious succession of balls that shut out the other team’s offense is always heroic. Bello (11-5, 4.8 ERA), clenched a no-hitter up until the sixth inning and limited the Orioles’ heavy-hitting offense for most of the game.

While Povich (1-6, 5.77 ERA) came back up to the big leagues like a unicorn last night, not allowing a hit until the seventh inning. Bello held the Orioles to three walks before he allowed Gunnar Henderson to get one off in the sixth. Henderson hit his 32nd home run and finally was able to put Baltimore on the board.

Today’s matchup for the final game of the series will pit Boston’s Kutter Crawford (8-9, 4.21 ERA) up against Albert Suarez (5-4, 3.39 ERA). As the Red Sox inadvertently help the Yankees stay in first place standings this week, they will plan to take the series 3-1 after today.

Boston Red Sox Bring Heat To Baltimore

It was a quiet game up until the sixth inning yesterday with beautiful work from both defenses at Camden Yards. Both, Povich and Bello were appreciative of the major support from the infield and outfield so they could stay focused on their pitching game. Boston waited patiently for their opportunity to show the Baltimore fans what they are made of, and an RBI single that broke the ice with Tyler O’Neill.

Jarren Duran continued the offense’s momentum cracking the tie with a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning. Duran, the Red Sox centerfielder, tied for 45th in RBI this season and 15 home runs, had a clutch performance last night to pick things up for Boston.

Rafael Devers did not disappoint by hitting his 27th homer for the Boston Red Sox giving them ample room against Baltimore. The count was 3-2 for a two-run shot, Devers, declining his invitation to the All-Star Game this year, had his priorities straight. Devers will need to con powerhouse for the Red Sox. Today with the Sox at 16-4 on Sunday games, Boston will plan to go for a series win over the opportunistic Orioles.

Wrapping Up The Series

This series is a pivotal moment in the season for the Boston Red Sox. Moving within seven games behind the first-place AL East Yankees, the Sox have helped the Yankees clench first place by keeping the O’s at bay thus far. Baltimore is only one game behind even while dropping four of their last six games. The Boston Red Sox will play today and hope to bring home a series win. The bullpen has shown positive strength away this week despite national criticism even from its fans like Dave Portnoy. Today Crawford needs to continue that momentum if Boston wants to continue to stay in the running for a chance at the playoffs.

As the summer wraps up, this series has shown prospective hope for the Red Sox to continue to gain traction this season. The bullpen is still questionable at best but by showing up to Baltimore with heart, they have outpoured everything their fans need to know: They still got it.  Boston will continue to keep one eye open on the New York Yankees as they face the number one team in AL Central, the Cleveland Guardians.

While Baltimore ends this series by visiting the third-place New York Mets, there is heat this summer. The Boston Red Sox will have to rely on an outstanding offense and help from their bullpen desperate to rise in the standings before it is too late.
