Boston Red Sox-Patrick Sandoval Agree To 2-Year Deal

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox agreed to terms on a two-year $18.25 with Starting Pitcher Patrick Sandoval on Friday. He is coming off a career-worst season in 2024 with the Los Angeles Angels before undergoing Tommy John Surgery in June. Sandoval was 2-8 with a 5.08 ERA with the Angels last season. The Boston Red Sox are expecting the pitcher to be sidelined until the second half of the 2025 season due to his recovery from Tommy John.

Sandoval has spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Angels. He debuted in 2019 and has a career record of 19-45 a 4.01 ERA. The Boston Red Sox and Sandoval hope an improved version of the veteran will be present with his new ballclub. How will this deal work out for both sides?

What Will Sandoval Bring To the Boston Red Sox?

It was a disappointing season for the Boston Red Sox. They missed the postseason for the third consecutive season and finished third in the American League East at 81-81. Sandoval joins a Red Sox starting rotation that includes Lucas Giolito, Garrett Crochet, and Brayan Bello.

Boston’s pitching staff was average in 2024 as they were 17th in team ERA, 20th in opposing batting average, and 20th in strikeouts. The team’s starting rotation was a strength in 2024 with the seventh-best ERA in Major League Baseball. Sandoval will look to add to the Boston Red Sox rotation in 2025 and beyond.

Final Thoughts

Boston has had a busy offseason as they look to get back on track and make the postseason in 2025. The team was reportedly heavily involved in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, and even though they lost out to the New York Mets, the Boston Red Sox will reportedly remain active throughout the MLB Offseason.
