Former Brooklyn Net Guard Lonnie Walker IV has signed a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics. Walker has spent his last four seasons with the Spurs, Nets, and Lakers. He was the 18th pick in the 2018 NBA draft. Walker played for the University of Miami where he played 32 games and averaged as a freshman 11.5 points per game. Walker spent one season with the Lakers before he signed a one-year deal, $2 million with the Brooklyn Nets. Lonnie is 25 years old and heading into his fifth season with the reigning champs Boston Celtics.

Lonnie Walker is now part of the Boston Celtics for the upcoming NBA season. He signed a one-year deal with the reigning champs. Walker has averaged 10 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and is 42.2% FG%. Walker is a strong shooter, half of his field goals come from three-point range which he made 38.4% of them last season. Walker strained his calf which kept him sidelined the whole month of December. Walker only has been in the playoffs twice in six seasons and has never made it to the conference finals. This opportunity with the Celtics can provide a chance for him to gain more playoff experience and maybe go to the NBA Finals.

With Walker added to the Boston Celtics roster most likely means Oshae Brissett will not return. If he does not return this will lead to Walker being the ninth or tenth option in playing time for the Celtics. Walker will add depth to the team that the Celtics look to have from three-point range. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla’s offensive philosophy is based on having a shot at every position, and Walker has proven he can do that.

Moreover, his addition to the squad is proof that every champion team should keep making additions and improvements to face the challenges of the upcoming season.

Final Thoughts

Now that the Boston Celtics have added a strong shooting guard it will help the team in depth this season. The Celtics will hope to make another run at the NBA Finals again this upcoming season. The addition of Walker can help the team and give Walker a fresh start coming off a calf injury that hindered him last season for a month and when returning could not find a rhythm.

But with head coach Joe Mazzulla’s offensive mind, he can provide what Walker needs to achieve this season. The Boston Celtics were dominant last season with a 64-18 record and 1st in the Division and 1st in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics were 16-3 in the playoffs alone and made it to the Finals beating the Dallas Mavericks.
