The Boston Celtics steamrolled the competition a season ago en route to their 18th NBA Championship in franchise history. Boston went 16-3 in the playoffs a season ago and had the top seed in the entire postseason. The Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the NBA Finals a season ago. Boston also defeated the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Indiana Pacers in the postseason. Can the Boston Celtics repeat the same success as they did a season ago?
One Reason Why They Should Not Be Overlooked
Many NBA fans questioned about the route Celtics had toward another NBA championship last year. It was the first title they won since the 2008 season against the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. Boston faced teams who had key players injured. Jimmy Butler was injured for the Miami Heat. Jarrett Allen and Donovan Mitchell were hurt for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Injuries are a part of a game and there is nothing that the Boston Celtics could do about it.
Dan Favale of Bleacher Report wrote about one reason for every NBA team why they should not be overlooked for the 2024-2025 season. The main reason why the Boston Celtics should not be overlooked is because they will be the favorites to win the NBA Title again. Along with Boston, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets also have good odds to win it all. Favale said:
“Relative to the rest of the field, FanDuel’s NBA futures have the Boston Celtics billed as heavy favorites to repeat as champions.
Because, well, duh.
It would be far more challenging to come up with reasons we should overlook the Celtics. They don’t exist.
Pessimists will latch onto Kristaps Porziņģis missing the start of next year and probably not suiting up before Christmas after undergoing surgery to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg. That’s somewhat fair. Who knows what he looks like or how much he can play upon return, and his absence invariably increases the workload for a 38-year-old Al Horford.”
The Boston Celtics might have the best roster in the NBA in terms of having the best six players. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holliday will be the starters. Al Horford will be coming off the bench. Horford decided not to retire and come back for another NBA season. Payton Prichard is another player to watch out for off the bench for the Boston Celtics. Head coach Joe Mazzulla answered his critics a season ago when he won an NBA title.
Brown was the NBA Finals MVP last season. He and Jayson Tatum have been a very good dynamic duo in the NBA. Tatum and the rest of the team are looking to win another championship. After the way, Jayson Tatum was disrespected by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr in the Paris Olympics for Team U.S.A, he will no doubt have a chip on his shoulder. The Boston Celtics will be disrespected again by the outside this season and will look to use it as fuel to go back-to-back.
