Bo Nix: NFL Teams Rubbed The Wrong Way After In-Person Interviews

Bo Nix in-person interviews

Bo Nix is one of the many quarterbacks available in this year’s NFL Draft. While he isn’t seen as one of the top picks, some analysts have him still going in the first round. That may change, given the recent news. Analysts are reporting that Nix is not interviewing well and is rubbing some teams the wrong way.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that teams felt Bo Nix was too stiff during his in-person interviews. Everything felt rehearsed and very scripted. Teams often want players to show some personality during the meetings. They want to get an idea of who the player is as a person and not just on the field. Another issue teams are having with Nix is they are uncertain of his ability to adapt.

One NFC executive said this about Bo Nix.

“Coaches love him. Knows football, coach’s son, can talk it and walk it. He can talk it up on the board, but when the lights come on and the picture changes, it’s a little bit of a concern. If he thinks it’s Cover 2, safety rotation on snap, one-high [and instead] becomes Cover 3, how quickly can he adjust and process?”

NFL defenses are different than college football defenses. They adjust on the fly, and if Nix cannot process the changes, he will likely struggle.

Where Will He Be Drafted?

It is important to note that Bo Nix was a successful college quarterback. In 2023, he completed 77.4 percent of his passes for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns, and three interceptions, earning him Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year honors. He will definitely be drafted, but these reports seem to indicate he will likely be a day-two pick rather than a first-round pick. If an NFL team is drafting a first-round quarterback, they want to be sure they are getting a franchise guy.

Bo Nix will be one of the names to watch at the end of the first round. The benefit of choosing him in the first round is the fifth-year option on his contract. Teams will trade back in to get the player for an additional year. It will be interesting to see if a team goes for him or waits until day two.
