Bengals Preseason Week 3: Exciting Finale?

The regular season is just two short weeks away and The Cincinnati Bengals have one more preseason showdown before the regular season kicks off. The Bengals starters are not slated to play against the Colts to close their preseason schedule. With the starters not playing, there are some things to key in on to get a better idea of how the team could look in 2024.

Offensive Line

Preseason

Throughout Joe Burrows’s career, the biggest area of struggle for Cincinnati has been the Offensive line. No depth has been a problem since he was drafted. In 2024, The Cincinnati Bengals added some guys in the trenches this offseason, and at a glance, it looks like the offensive line looks to be the best since The Bengals Drafted Joe Burrow. The cornerstone of the franchise, and one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Burrow has been sacked the second most times in the NFL since being drafted according to Statmuse.

Having said that, some guys to look for against the Colts would be rookie Center Matt Lee and Guard Jaxson Kirkland. Both guys seem to have had a good enough camp to earn a spot on the 53-man roster giving the Bengals a couple of new guys to have behind the starters. This season at this point looks like the best offensive line that Joe Burrow and the Bengals have had.

Maema Njongmeta

The undrafted rookie has had a very good preseason for the Bengals. He currently leads the team in preseason tackles with 18. NJongmeta has been flying around the field making plays. Will he be able to force the Bengals hand, and secure a spot on the 53-man roster? If he leads the team in tackles once again, it may be hard for Cincinnati to keep him off the roster.

Running backs

Will the Bengals roster four running backs in 2024, with Chris Evans out for the season? Evans tore his patellar tendon and will miss the entire season. Predominately a special teams guy, Evans has spent three seasons with the Bengals. It will be interesting to see if one of the other guys can make a push for Evans’s role on special teams, or even make a push for the third spot on the depth chart ahead of Trayveon Williams.

Final Thoughts

The Bengals preseason comes to an end against the Indianapolis Colts, and there are a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the game. Several players pushing for a roster spot should have the guys playing hard and fast all around the field. Who can make that final push to secure a roster spot going into the regular season?
