German heavyweights Bayern Munich welcome Dinamo Zagreb to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening as they embark on a 17th successive year in the Champions League. The six-time European champions were knocked off their perch in the Bundesliga last season, but have started well this term. Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb, who claimed the top spot once again in Croatia, is back for another crack at the big time.
Bayern Munich vs. Dinamo Zagreb: Form and Head-to-Head
Bayern Munich has never missed group-stage actions of the UEFA Champions League and is into their 17th consecutive appearance in the groups. Also, they have not failed to qualify for the last 16 in those previous 17 seasons. Bayern Munich has an unbeaten run of 40 group games; with 36 wins in those. Last season the Bavarians had been held to a draw at home to Copenhagen which ended their streak of 17 successive group-stage wins. They recently sent Holstein Kiel packing with a convincing 6-1 victory and also made it four wins out of four in all competitions.
Dinamo Zagreb had played with Bayern Munich just twice before, back in 2015, and lost both games to the German giants. Having been dominant in their league, they have not been able to in Europe, finishing last during group stages in seven of their most recent attempts. However, they entered the season after a pretty good run, winning five of their last six games in all competitions, though their unbeaten run ended with a loss against Hajduk Split.

Team News
Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany will have almost all of his squad members to select from, with the return to the match-day squad of Leroy Sane. However, Josip Stanisic-knee, Tarek Buchmann-thigh, and Hiroki Ito-foot will miss the Champions League opener. Competition for places in Bayern’s final third is thus very sharp, with Sane fighting it out with Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel, and Michael Olise for a place in the starting XI. Jamal Musiala is a certainty to feature supporting Harry Kane, who is in terrific form.
Dinamo Zagreb – boss Sergej Jakirovic may make some changes coming off of a defeat last week. Sandro Kulenovic has netted five goals in six league appearances this term and, with Bruno Petkovic leading the front line, national teammates Petar Sucic and Martin Baturina will be offering middle-park support.
Potential Starting XI
Bayern Munich: Neuer; Kimmich, Kim, Upamecano, Guerreiro; Pavlovic, Palhinha; Coman, Musiala, Gnabry; Kane
Dinamo Zagreb: Livakovic; Ristovski, Theophile-Catherine, Mmaee, Pierre-Gabriel; Ademi, Sucic; Córdoba, Baturina, Pjaca; Petković
Bayern Munich vs. Dinamo Zagreb: Prediction
Bayern Munich have won 20 of their last 25 home Champions League matches, with just one defeat in that run – rather a tough first-day journey for Dinamo Zagreb. Bayern, in attack and with deep form, is going to be next to do more. Heavy artillery will be on the home side’s hands, and with home-field advantage, the win is likely their own.
