They bought Phillipe Coutinho for 135 million in the 2017/18 season, Ousmane Dembele for 135 million in the 2017/18 season, and Antoine Griezmann for 120 million in the 2019/20 season. Even though they were big names for the club one of them which is Coutinho destroyed his career after signing for Barca.
One major reason also behind this is Lionel Messi. As his contract expired for Barcelona, he demanded more money from the club’s president and took advantage of his importance and essence. He already knew when to show his form in the tight and hectic situations in the game but also knowing that aspect he tried to take more salary from the club. Eventually that made the club lose their credibility and more money they had in their account.

After the damage Bartomeu had done, the club decided on a new president. They appointed Joan Laporta as their new president. But the hollow he had put in Barca’s financial status was not to be taken very lightly. Somehow the club found a very “embarrassing” and “ridiculous” way to deal with the daily bread of the club. The club started to make new schemes like renting the plot of the ground to wealthy couples during their marriage days.
Selling grasses to the fans in their shops so they can generate more revenue. Selling the players to the other clubs and giving a salary cut to their loyal players who are happy to take due to their loyalty to their club. But one major medium of earning they recently did is when they showed interest in buying Nico Williams many loyal Barcelona fans donated money on TikTok and helped Barcelona to buy Nico Williams.
