Baltimore Ravens Derrick Henry Driven By Desire To Win Lombardi Trophy

Baltimore Ravens Derrick Henry

The Baltimore Ravens didn’t make any huge signings this offseason except one. Former Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry joined the squad, which felt like a match made in heaven. The Ravens have historically been a run-heavy team, and Henry is one of the few workhorse backs left in the NFL. They pair Henry’s bulldozing nature with Lamar Jackson’s elusiveness. Opposing defenses will have nightmares about stopping this offense. Henry recently spoke about how excited he was to join the team and what motivates him.

In eight seasons with the Titans, Henry put up huge stats. He racked up five 1,000-yard seasons and should have had six if not for a foot injury. In that year, he had 937 rushing yards through eight games before missing the rest of the season. Derrick Henry has led the league in rushing attempts four times and rushing yards twice. He is known for being hard to bring down. While Henry has the stats, he has one goal for this season.

“I really want to hold that trophy up at the end of the year. But it starts right now putting the work in.”

The Baltimore Ravens have welcomed him with open arms, and his new teammates have been getting to know him. Many videos have been posted of him working out with Roquan Smith and Lamar Jackson. He is committed to making sure the Ravens can fight through the tough AFC and get to another Super Bowl. Is the addition of Henry enough?

Any team with Lamar Jackson as a quarterback has a shot. His playmaking ability is unmatched. The Baltimore Ravens also have a solid head coach, John Harbaugh. While other teams have a carousel of coaches, the Ravens have had a steady hand at the helm for a long time. This offense now features Mark Andrews, Zay Flowers, and Derrick Henry, who are a great trio of skill-positioned players.

There are question marks for the team. Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald left to coach the Seahawks, and the Steelers signed Patrick Queen. This unit was the bread and butter of the team last year. While the offense looked better last year, the defense suffocated opponents. With their losses, they might not be as dominant as they were last year.

Concerns About Henry

The other concern would be about Derrick Henry himself. He is a 30-year-old running back, which historically has meant a huge dropoff in production. He comes to the Baltimore Ravens with a lot of miles on him. Leading the league in rushing attempts seems great, except those are a lot of hits his body has taken. If he is able to be the running back he was with Tennessee, the Ravens will be pleased. If he struggles, this signing could be a massive disappointment.

The Baltimore Ravens will have their hands full this season in their own division. All of the teams have a case for being the best team. While Baltimore should be favored, they have one of the toughest roads to a guaranteed home playoff game.
