Baltimore Orioles: Recall Jackson Holliday From Triple-A

Baltimore Orioles Jackson Holliday

The Baltimore Orioles made some moves before the MLB trade deadline on Tuesday. However, after the deadline passed, they decided to recall top prospect shortstop Jackson Holliday from the minor leagues. Holliday made his MLB debut earlier this year with the Orioles, but he was sent back down to Triple-A. Hopefully, Holliday stays in the majors for the long haul this time around. Baltimore is currently leading the American League East, and they are looking to win a World Series title in 2024.

This callup occurred after they traded away Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers to the Miami Marlins. Norby and Stowers did not appear to be in the Orioles’ long-term plans. There were some rumors about Holliday being traded to the Detroit Tigers as part of a Tarik Skubal potential trade, but Baltimore was in no way going to part ways with one of the top prospects in all of baseball. In his first stint in the big leagues, he had a total of 34 at-bats and five total hits, along with one RBI.

Jackson Holliday is only 20 years old and he will be playing most likely second base instead of shortstop in his recall. Gunnar Henderson is one of the best shortstops in all of baseball. He is tremendous with the bat and the glove for the Orioles.

They have a big championship window with this team because they have a lot of talent. Holliday is one of the most polarizing prospects in all of baseball. It is a little surprising that he was called back up. Many thought that he was not going to be called up until at least September or even until next season.

He Played Well in Triple-A

Jackson Holliday of the Baltimore Orioles played in 73 games with the Norfolk Tides in Triple-A this season. He had a .271 batting average with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs, along with eight stolen bases and one caught stealing attempt. His on-base percentage is .431. There has been a lot of hype around him because his Dad, Matt Holliday, played in the MLB for a very long time. His Dad was a very good hitter at the MLB level and Jackson Holliday hopes he can be a very good hitter in the MLB.

We will see where manager Brandon Hyde bats him in the lineup this time around. They have a stacked lineup already with Adley Rutschman, Herston Krjestad, Anthony Santander, Gunnar Henderson, Ryan Mountcastle, and others. Jackson Holliday will not be the last stud prospect that Baltimore is going to be calling up in the future.

Coby Mayo is another prospect that the Orioles will call up at some point. It could be toward the end of this year or 2025. A lot of fans are excited about his future and some felt that Mayo could have been traded for a starting pitcher like Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox, but he was never dealt.

Baltimore has one of the best farm systems in all of baseball because of general manager Mike Elias. Some have claimed that he has prospects hugged, but he did trade away some prospects at the MLB trade deadline. We will see if not going big fishing will come back to bite them.

The best move they may have made on Tuesday was calling up Jackson Holliday. Holliday could be a player that the Orioles need in September and October. They have not won a World Series title since 1983. They were swept last season in the ALDS against the Texas Rangers. The Orioles need to show progress this postseason, and so does Holliday in the big leagues.
