It has been a busy day for the Baltimore Orioles as they just acquired Zach Eflin from the Tampa Bays Rays according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. According to Passan, the Rays will receive three minor league players in return for the services of Eflin. The Baltimore Orioles acquired Relief Pitcher Seranthony Dominguez and Center Fielder Cristian Pache in exchange for Outfielder Austin Hays earlier today.
Eflin’s last start as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays was on Wednesday and the 30-year-old righty fared well. He surrendered two earned runs over 5.2 innings of work as he walked away with a no decision. Eflin is 5-7 this season with an ERA of 4.09. How will he fit in with the Baltimore Orioles over the homestretch of the 2024 regular season?

Eflin made his MLB debut in 2016 as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent the first seven seasons of his career in the “City of Brotherly Love.” Eflin signed a three-year $40 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays before the 2023 season. The best season of his career was in 2023 when he finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting. Eflin has a career record of 57-60 with a career ERA of 4.26.
How Will Eflin Fit In With The Baltimore Orioles?
Eflin joins a Baltimore Orioles team that has World Series aspirations. Baltimore(61-41) is tied for the second-best record in Major League Baseball. They have been powered by a great offense and pitching staff this season. Eflin will join an Orioles pitching staff that is seventh in ERA, fifth in opposing batting average, and fifth in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Grayson Rodriguez is tied for second in the league in wins, Corbin Burnes is top 10 in both wins and ERA, and Closer Craig Kimbrel is tied for fourth in the league with 23 saves.
Baltimore had a 100-win season in 2023 for the first time since 1979. They ended up being swept in the ALDS by the World Series champion Texas Rangers. The Orioles hope Eflin can be the missing piece between the Baltimore Orioles and their first World Series win since 1983. With the MLB Trade Deadline less than a week away, and following what was an extremely active day, the Baltimore Orioles are not done tinkering with their roster for the home stretch of the 2024 regular season.
