Ireland’s Andrew Balbirnie accepts the T20 World Cup will be an outcome in the US. While the hosting duties are being imparted to the West Indies, the ICC wants to open up another market for the game in the USA with games in Texas, Florida, and New York.

Balbirnie believes the T20 World Cup will be a success in the United States

The USA opened the tournament on June 2 against Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, followed by Ireland’s most memorable first game three days later against India at the Nassau County Stadium in New York.

With the NBA Finals due to start on June 6, ice hockey’s Stanley Cup being played simultaneously, and the US Open golf a week later, will cricket make a scratch against these other significant occasions? Balbirnie accepts that the game is starting to establish a connection in the land where baseball is the national pastime.
“Clearly, we’ve seen the sort of improvement in the stadium that is implicit in New York, and normally, India playing Pakistan there will be a major fascination,” Balbirnie said.
The 33-year-old added, “I think to play the two North American teams there also, Canada and the USA, is extraordinary.
“I believe there is going to be an extraordinary World Cup for us.”

Andrew Balbirnie’s thoughts about T20 World Cup in the USA

Ireland visited the USA in 2021, thus having some insight into playing there. Crowds ought to increase with the number of expats from every one of the competing countries living and working in North America.
“It is a country that is exceptionally new with regards to cricket; however, I believe it’s extremely energetic at the same time,” Balbirnie said.
“I believe it’s extremely exciting. We’re exceptionally eager to go to Fort Lauderdale and New York, and, no doubt, ideally, we can give the NBA and golf a run for their money.”
After losing their recent three-game series to Pakistan despite winning the first encounter, Ireland will finish their preparations with warm-up matches against the Netherlands and Scotland, knowing where they need to improve.
“No doubt, I think our fielding wasn’t sufficient in the second and third games,” Balbirnie added.
It’s difficult on a little ground against a batting line-up like Pakistan. So whenever you truly do make two or three possibilities, as we did in the two games, you need to take them, or probably you’ll be punished, and we were punished.
I figure we might have had greater scores in the last two games; however, no, I figure we won’t fear anybody going into the World Cup against India, Pakistan, Canada, and the USA. Form doesn’t actually have a major impact on it, but certainly confidence does, and I think the folks are quite sure right now, and we simply need to move forward with that confidence along into Scotland and Holland one week from now.
