Babar Azam Breaks Virat Kohli’s T20Is Record | Harbhajan Singh Releases Huge Statement

Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian Test cricketer, responded to Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam breaking Virat Kohli’s international cricket records. In a statement, the former off-spinner stated that Virat Kohli is not interested in statistics or winning the T20 International title.

Harbhajan Singh remarked that Kohli would focus on scoring runs in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, regardless of whether he is the tournament’s leading run-scorer.

The Pakistan white-ball captain presently leads the T20Is with 4113 runs, followed by India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have scored 4042 runs in 146 and 112 innings, respectively.

Harbhajan Singh Reacts to Babar Azam’s Records

Babar Azam surpassed Virat Kohli‘s record for most runs in men’s T20Is during the T20 World Cup 2024 group round. Kohli has failed to get going at the top of India’s order, scoring only five runs in two matches. Kohli was dismissed for four against Pakistan in New York on June 9, his lowest score against his archrivals in the men’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Harbhajan said Kohli will be focused on getting some runs under his put-on in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage, but he would not be concerned about whether he has the crown in the leading run-getters list. Babar Azam went over Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in men’s T20Is during the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage.

“I’m not sure if he’s verifying all of the records that Babar has gone through ahead of him. But, one thing is certain. “He must be eager to get big runs under his belt before moving on to the next round, which will be played in the Caribbean,” Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports on Wednesday, June 12.

“The matches will be played on improved surfaces. Virat Kohli must be thinking about how to increase his run count. Knowing how much of a champion he is, he would put in all of the effort to score for India. He will only focus on the first ten balls. “If he bats for 10 balls, we’ll see what Virat Kohli can do,” he said.

Kohli’s Current Performance & Future Prospects

Virat Kohli is 71 runs behind Babar Azam, who leads the batting rankings with 4113 runs from 122 matches. Virat Kohli averages 50 in T20I cricket after playing 119 matches in the shortest format, whereas Babar averages 40 in 121 international T20Is.

Kohli will start the batting for India with Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup 2024, having pushed for the position with an Orange Cap-winning performance (741 runs in 15 matches) in the IPL 2024. Kohli has kept Yashasvi Jaiswal out of the XI, but the great batsman has thrown it away in both games: one against Ireland and four against Pakistan.

Former fast bowler Laxmipathy Balaji stated that Virat Kohli would be as hungry as ever and that he does not need to prove anything to anyone.

“I do not believe he needs to prove anything to anyone. He must be thinking about his own conflict. Virat is a modern-day great. He will be eager to make his imprint on this stage. Yes, Virat hasn’t had the best start, but getting runs on this surface has been difficult,” Kohli remarked.

India made no changes to their starting XI for their Group A match against co-hosts the United States, while opposing skipper Monank Patel was ruled out due to a niggle.
