Australia Crush England: Travis Head Shines, Bowlers Dominate

Australia

Australia was always in a commanding position in the first game where they scored 179 mainly due to a brilliant knock from Travis Head. His knock of 59 from just 23 balls,  helped his team set a challenging target. Head taking on England’s bowlers, especially the left-arm Sam Curran, who gave 30 runs in the over, made it clear that England would be on the receiving end this time.

Possible Shift for Australia in Second T20I

Looking forward to the second T20I on Friday, Australia may not want to tinker with the winning side. But there is one choice that captain Mitchell Marsh can consider at this stage, replacing Marcus Stoinis for Aaron Hardie. Stoinis has been performing below par from the last year. This could be why Marsh could be ready to afford Hardie an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in the subsequent match.

The other possible topic for discussion could be the first move. However, there could be some argument for promoting Jake Fraser-McGurk into the opening slot alongside Travis Head but after the first T20I. Matthew Short has shown that he could be a regular opener thus ending such debate. This raises doubts about whether Fraser-McGurk is the right choice to replace Short at the top, especially after his two ducks in the recent T20I series against Scotland.

England’s Struggles in the Chase

England started losing wickets one after another and couldn’t form a strong partnership. Livingstone fought hard to give the English side a fighting chance and though they could get to 151, the Australian side won the match comfortably. The Australian bowlers maintained a consistent line and length thus frustrating the English batting line especially because of the early setback.

Stable Lineup Expected with Bowling Unit Firing

The only possible twist from this particular line-up is the switch of position of an all-rounder Still, the Australians are expected to maintain this line-up of players. The bowling unit, which did very well against a powerful England batting lineup, will be keen on emulating the same. Provided that some of the injured players do not regain fitness in time for the match, it seems that the side is in good shape and needs to reassemble the same squad that gave England a run for their money the last time the two teams met.

England may have other ideas, but Australia will head into the second T20I full of confidence after a resounding win, and the English will have to find ways of preventing themselves from being overwhelmed by the Aussies in the game.
