The Auburn football team is already looking ahead to 2028 by extending an offer to the son of a former player, Chris Davis III. Davis’ father, Chris Davis Jr., has become immortalized in school history for leading the Tigers past rival Alabama in the 2013 ‘Iron Bowl’ on the game’s final play, now commonly referred to as the ‘Kick Six.’
Davis III is a 5’9″ running back from Trussville, Alabama. He does not yet have a prospect rating on either 247Sports or ESPN.

For many college football fans, it is hard to believe that the now-legendary ‘Kick Six’ game between Auburn and Alabama took place over 10 years ago. As announced on May 20, with ‘Kick Six’ hero Chris Davis Jr. now 33 years old, the team has sent an initial offer to the former defensive back’s son for the class of 2028.
Davis III, who goes by CJ Davis, is projected to be the starting running back for Hewitt-Trussville High School in the fall of 2024. As a young athlete, Davis III reportedly has already captured the attention of college football scouts but appears to show an affinity for Auburn on his social media pages.
Per 247Sports, Davis III has also received initial offers from Florida State, Arkansas, and UCF despite just competing in his eighth grade academic year. Davis III is also an avid basketball player for Hewitt-Trussville.
Where is Chris Davis Jr. now? The Legendary ‘Kick Six’ Defensive Back
Chris Davis Jr. was a All-SEC defensive back for the Auburn Tigers in 2013 but no fans remember him for his ball-hawking skills. Instead, Davis will always be recognized as the creator of one of the most iconic moments in college football history, now known as the ‘Kick Six.’
On the final play of a 2013 Iron Bowl, as Alabama lined up for a game winning field goal attempt, Davis — the Auburn return man — stood on the back line of the end zone. The kicker, Adam Griffith, missed the kick short, allowing Davis to field the attempt and return it for a 109-yard touchdown for the win and a ticket into the National Championship game.
On the back of his successful 2013 campaign and new-found fame, Davis entered the 2014 NFL Draft. As one of the top cornerbacks in the SEC and an All-American kick returner, Davis was expected to be selected in the later rounds but would go undrafted.
After bouncing around the NFL with several teams, Davis attempted to play in the failed Alliance of American Football league in 2018. Following the league’s closure, he would then attempt to play in the XFL in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shutdown.
Since 2020, Davis was last reported as the cornerbacks coach for Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama. However, his status is currently unknown as the school hired James Thompson as their new head coach in February.
Davis lives in Trussville with his son and is often seen as a proud father on Friday nights at Hewitt-Trusville football games. He will always be a legend in Auburn lore.
