Atletico Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview
Atletico Madrid
The Spaniards finished atop Group E from the group stages. Furthermore, it took a nail-biting penalty shootout, but they were able to advance to this stage in the tournament. Atletico Madrid has been excellent in scoring goals throughout the competition. But more importantly, they have only conceded eight goals in the Champions League this year.
Griezmann is the player to look for. In eight starts, he’s scored six goals on the European stage. Additionally, Alvaro Morata is close behind with five goals. Finally, Axel Witsel is someone to continue to monitor as a staple of this Atletico Madrid defense.
Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund emerged from Group F as winners. However, their inconsistency going forward could spell the end of the road for them here in the Champions League. The defense and goalkeeping are overall solid, but they’ll need to be more creative and dangerous going forward.
Niclas Füllkrug is someone who needs to get himself going. The striker has only scored once in seven appearances for Dortmund. His 19 shots have only seen five go on target. Against a formidable Atletico Madrid side he’ll need to be less wasteful of his opportunities.
