Athletics Second Baseman Jacob Wilson has taken the league by storm in his first 15 games in the big leagues. He has the third-longest season-opening hit streak by a rookie since 1900. He is also one of four players in franchise history to have a hit in their first 15 games of the season.
Wilson extended his hitting streak by going 1-of-4 with a run scored this afternoon at home against the New York Mets in a 3-1 victory. He is hitting .368 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI this year. Wilson is fifth in the league in batting average. Will he be able to keep up his high level of play as the Athletics look to exceed expectations?

In the franchise’s first season playing in Sacramento, they have gotten off to a 6-9 start. The Athletics have been surprisingly strong on offense early in the 2025 regular season. They are ninth in batting average, fourth in home runs, and 12th in runs scored. Wilson’s stellar play has helped the team have a strong offense.
The issue for the Athletics is its pitching staff. They are 26th in ERA, 27th in opposing batting average, and have surrendered the fourth-most home runs in the league. The Athletics are 22nd in bullpen ERA which has cost them games this year. Even though the team has a strong offense, a poor pitching staff will bring down the ballclub.
Final Thoughts
Wilson will look to continue climbing the all-time list in the final game of the series with the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon. The rookie’s start has shown the Athletics they have found a player they can count on for years to come.
