Athletics-Manager Mark Kotsay Agree On 3-Year Contract Extension

Athletics

The Athletics and Manager Mark Kotsay agreed to a three-year contract extension on Monday. This deal reportedly includes a club option for the 2029 season. His current contract was set to expire following the 2025 season. Kotsay has been the A’s skipper since 2022, and the early returns have not been great. He is 179-307 with the ballclub. He guided the team to the most wins of his managerial tenure in 2024 with 69 victories. Will Kotsay be able to guide the Athletics to a strong regular season?

Athletics Season Outlook

The franchise is preparing for its first season in Sacramento following the team leaving Oakland. After a 2024 season that got messy between Owner John Fisher, the city, and its fans, the Athletics had an active offseason. The team signed Starting Pitcher Luis Severino to the largest deal in franchise history.

Other key moves the franchise made this offseason were acquiring Pitcher Jeffrey Springs, signing Relief Pitcher Jose Leclerc, and signing Infielder Gio Urshela. The Athletics offense will be led by Designated Hitter Brent Rooker. He is coming off the best season of his career and was rewarded with a lucrative contract extension.

Final Thoughts

Kotsay will look to help guide a young team to success in 2025. He is well respected in the Athletics clubhouse and is viewed by many in the organization as the right man for the job regardless of his success over his first three seasons on the job.
