Arsenal has been in exceptional form this year. They’ve had lengthy spells of victory over the past few months. This has made them a strong contender for the title alongside Liverpool and Man City.
The top position in the league has oscillated between them and Liverpool over the months. But they soon took charge after a big slip-up from the Reds. The slip-up didn’t stop for the Merseyside in their next game. Yet the Gunners failed to strengthen their grip at the top. Adversely it gave the colossal defending champions who had been lurking around since a taste at the top. After their terrifying loss, their coach Mikel Arteta has sparked a glimmer of hope in the team.
Arsenal experiences a Terrifying defeat at Home
The Gunners hosted Aston Villa on a Sunday evening. It was a game that was accompanied by grudges. Aston Villa’s coach Unai Emery was Arsenal’s former manager. Emiliano Martinez, Villa’s goalkeeper also kept for the Gunners at a certain period. It felt like a game of payback for the Villa side. But with Arsenal’s form, it was expected that they would be subdued at the Emirates.
The game initiated with a lot of chances from both sides. Arsenal had controlled the possession more in the game. The likes of Harvertz and Saka saw a couple of chances. However, they couldn’t hit the back of the net. The London side tried to break through their opponents, but Unai Emery’s side maintained their composure. Soon poor composure from the Gunners gave Watkins a counter. but the woodwork had saved the Gunners from conceding.
The 2nd half had similar situations, but this time it tilted more in favor of Villa. The Villans began to see more chances than the Gunners. They had exploited the likes of Ben White and Zinchenko at the flanks. Tielemans had a shot ricochet off the bar twice.
It became worse when Leon Bailey was brought in. The unmarked Jamaican converted a close-range chance, punishing the London side. The Villans fueled the fire with a break from Watkins who slots in the 2nd
Mikel Arteta Encourages His Team
Arteta was at first heavily disappointed with the outcome of the game. But he summoned courage. He pointed out that if one game was going to block them, they weren’t strong enough. The Manager also emphasized that all hope isn’t lost over the loss of a single game. He continued that the EPL is a challenging league. Emphasizing if they had this same run of wins in other league they’ll be 8 points clear. However, he encouraged his team, by stressing that they needed to get up. Despite their loss, it’s a must for them to find the momentum back.
The Tasks Ahead of Mikel Arteta’s Side in the EPL
As it stands Mancity are top of the EPL table with two points ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool. It seems small, but the Manchester club has been known to win the league with fewer points. The Gunners will have all their attention on winning the remaining games of the season. Although they’ve got a lot of tricky ones up their sleeves. They’ll hope they can succumb to them all.
More games ahead of them
Arsenal will continue their Champions League campaign away to Bayern. Their trip to the Allianz Arena will be a very difficult one. They had drawn 2-2 at home against them, and all they needed now was to win at all costs against the Bavarians. After the game, they’ll also travel to Wolves to continue their EPL campaign.
