Arsenal Reportedly Decide the Future of Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal

Arsenal have reportedly made a decision regarding the future of defender Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Gunners signed the Japanese international from Bologna in 2021 for £17.8 million, and he has since been a valuable squad member, making 50 starts and 33 substitute appearances across all competitions.

However, Tomiyasu has struggled with injuries during his time at Arsenal, and in his three Premier League seasons, he has yet to make more than 22 appearances in a single campaign. While sometimes Mikel Arteta has chosen other options, Tomiyasu’s fitness issues, including calf and knee injuries, have also limited his playing time. He has yet to feature in the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury sustained in the summer.

Although Tomiyasu may return to action soon, it remains uncertain if Arteta will immediately reintegrate him into the squad. According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Arteta are open to offers for the defender, with the possibility of selling him in January, though a summer move seems more likely.

Tomiyasu’s Potential Future at Arsenal

With two years left on his contract, it appears unlikely that Arsenal will offer Tomiyasu an extension. Italian clubs such as Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli are reportedly interested in bringing him back to Serie A, where he previously impressed.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, a 25-year-old Japanese international, has struggled to secure regular playing time recently, and the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori has further reduced his chances of starting. Since joining Arsenal three years ago, Tomiyasu has been a reliable player for Mikel Arteta, making 83 appearances and contributing two goals and six assists.

However, recurring injuries have disrupted his form, preventing him from becoming a consistent starter. Daniele Longo from Calcio Mercato notes, “Tomiyasu has never been a fixed starter for Arsenal, but he has always been an important player.”

Top Clubs Showing Interest in Tomiyasu

With the January transfer window approaching, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli are reportedly eyeing defensive reinforcements, and Tomiyasu’s potential availability has generated significant interest. Juventus is expected to approach Arsenal in the coming months to explore a deal, with Tomiyasu valued at approximately €20 million. This valuation reflects his talent and potential to enhance any Serie A defense.

Having previously excelled at Bologna before moving to Arsenal, Tomiyasu is said to be open to a return to Serie A, where he would likely enjoy more consistent playing time. A move back to Italy could help reignite his career, allowing him to showcase his defensive intelligence, versatility, and attacking contributions. Playing for a top Serie A club would also allow Tomiyasu to be more prominent in Japan’s national team setup.

With Juventus, Inter, and Napoli all competing for his signature, Tomiyasu’s future could see him re-establish himself as a key player in Italian football. The main question is whether Arsenal is prepared to part ways with him and if Serie A will be his next stop.
