Arsenal have turned down a last-minute bid from Al-Ittihad to loan Leandro Trossard for the season, insisting they have no plans to let the Belgian forward go. Al-Ittihad reportedly offered 4 million pounds for a loan deal with a mandatory 25 million pounds option to buy.
Arsenal dismissed this proposal. The club considers the 29-year-old an essential part of their team, despite having signed Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea on the final day of the Premier League transfer window.
With the transfer windows in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League and several European leagues closing on Monday, Al-Ittihad had hoped to add Trossard to their squad alongside Moussa Diaby, who joined from Aston Villa for 60 million euros.

Trossard, who played against his former club Brighton on Saturday, had scored the opening goal as a substitute in Arsenal’s win over Villa the previous week. His subdued celebration suggested dissatisfaction with his bench role, but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta commended Trossard’s attitude.
This situation might have led Mikel Arteta to agree to part ways with Belgium international Trossard. The 29-year-old forward has been with Arsenal since his 20 million pound (26m dollar) transfer from Brighton in January 2023, during which he has scored 19 goals in 70 appearances across all competitions. The reason behind turning down Trossard’s move is that he is a key player in the Arsenal squad and has a vital role to play.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Trossard was being considered for a high-value move to the Middle East. Romano reports that Al-Ittihad had made a formal offer ahead of the summer transfer deadline for the Saudi Pro League. Arsenal has currently stepped back from accepting the offer.
Saudi Clubs Approaching Talents from Europe
Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is anticipated to undergo a medical in Rome on Monday for a potential move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Fayha. Other players potentially moving to Saudi Arabia include Victor Osimhen, who was omitted from Napoli’s Serie A squad after a transfer to Al-Ahli fell through, and Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana.
Cristiano Ronaldo has paved the way for this massive Saudi Arabian development. The standards have been set very high since the likes of Karim Benzema, Neymar Junior, Sadio Mane and many elite players have ended up playing in Saudi because for numerous reasons including the financial aspect.
The young talents who are currently dominating Europe such as Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Kevin de Bruyne and many more, have already been linked up with these Saudi giants. It is still believed that they have got a lot more to prove in Europe which makes up for their decision to refrain from these offers.
