Arsenal hosted Brighton at the Emirates for their 3rd gameweek. The Gunners had maintained two wins in their 1st and 2nd game of the new season. Their first game saw them overcoming the Wolves with a 2-nil victory. With goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz. Their 2nd game also saw them manage a 2-nil win on the road against Aston Villa, with goals coming from Trossard and Partey.
Before the game, Mikel Arteta had confirmed that two players will not be available for the Brighton game. New signing Mike Merino was confirmed injured for a few weeks. Gabriel Jesus was also confirmed unfit for the game. Arteta went into the game using the same lineup in their previous matches. The game started fine for them, however it didn’t end as they expected.
Arsenal vs Brighton: First Half

The Gunners were quick to take control of the game, overloading the right-hand side of the pitch with Saka and Odegaard. However, Brighton tried their best to keep the Gunners away. Brighton had some quick bursts of attack, but they failed to utilize it well.
The game was a stalemate until an aerial duel was lost by Lewis Dunk allowing Bukayo Saka to gain possession in Brighton’s half. Saka wasted no time in finding a completely free Havertz. VerBruggen rushed for clearance, but the German got there ahead of him to give Arsenal the lead. Brighton tried to break apart the Gunners’ defense however they couldn’t until it was half-time.
Arsenal vs Brighton: Second Half
Arsenal came into the second half with more intensity. Probing down the left-hand side with hopes of exploiting Brighton. However, Rice made a costly mistake. Declan Rice, who had already been given a yellow, kicked the ball away while Brighton was about to play a freekick in their half. The Referee wasted no time in giving the 25-year-old a second yellow, resulting in a Red. The decision was considered harsh by the Arsenal players. However, the referee didn’t turn back on the decision.
The Red card changed the tide allowing Brighton the privilege to pile up an insane amount of pressure on the Gunners.
Eventually, it paid off after a fine save from Raya rebounded into Joao Pedro’s path, who wasted no time in a slot in the equalizer. Brighton proceeded to find the winner, but great saves from Raya and a beautiful defensive display from the Gunners helped them survive for the remaining minutes of the game.
What’s Next for Arsenal
The Draw was a disappointing result for Mike Arteta’s side however they’ll be glad it didn’t end up in a loss as they were 10 men down at a point in the game. They’ll hope they can pick up momentum in their next game week. The following week after this game, there will be a pause for Club football, as players will travel for the international games.
After the week, the Gunners will resume to face their North London rivals Tottenham, and that week, they’ll face off Pep Guardiola’s side. It’s expected to be an Intriguing back-to-back fixture for them. Moreover, Mikel Arteta will be interested in getting the maximum points out of the games. By then, Arsenal will be hopeful that Gabriel Jesus is back to feature in those two games.
