Arsenal and Brighton engaged in a fierce encounter at the Amex stadium. Both teams went into the game with a lot at stake. For the gunners, it was their title hopes. Brighton on the other end, had their dream of qualifying for Europe. It started with a balance from both sides. The Seagulls and the gunners had a fair share of dangerous attacks. It soon turned one sided when Arsenal drew the first blood.
Arsenal defeats Brighton 3-0
Arsenal started out the game on a low intensity. Brighton tried their best early enough to get behind Arsenal’s defense and punish them. It was futile as Arsenal maintained their composure at the back. Soon it was the Gunners’ turn to attack back. They had a series of attacks from set pieces, which Gabriel headed wide in one. Gabriel Jesus also had a shot parried to the corner by Verbruggen.
The breakthrough for Arsenal came by a cynical foul from Lamptey on Gabriel Jesus. The foul was made in the box leading to a penalty. Bukayo Saka calmly slotted it in to give Arsenal the lead.
Brighton had a couple of dangerous attacks in response, but it was toothless.
Soon the Gunners added more to their misery. Loss of concentration at the back from Brighton led to a line-breaking pass. Jorginho squares the received ball for Harvertz who easily slips in the second.
Arsenal weren’t done yet. Minutes later Brighton got dispossessed in their center half leading to a counter for Trossard.
Their former player didn’t hesitate to slot in the third goal.
Increased Confidence for Arsenal’s title challenge.
This win sends Arsenal to the top of the table. Liverpool has a game in hand on Sunday, which a Red’s victory will return the Gunners to second. Yet Mikel Arteta will be proud of his side’s performance. He’ll be of the belief system that their consistency might eventually pay off
With nothing certain, they can only hope Liverpool drop points in their next game. It’s a tough fixture for Liverpool, as they visit Old Trafford. The last encounter with the Reds ended in a loss. Arsenal will desire such a situation to repeat itself, so they can stay on top.
More hurdles to overcome.
Arsenal will host a formidable opponent on Tuesday. They’ll continue their Champions League campaign facing an old foe Bayern Munich. Despite their horrible record against them, they’ll hope for a different turn. If possible, revenge. The weekend following the game will come with another thrilling encounter. Arsenal will host Aston Villa to continue their league Campaign.
