Arsenal are still in the running to win the 2023-2024 Premier League trophy after a crucial 1-0 win. Although Manchester City and Pep Guardiola’s side are hot on their tail going into the last few weeks of the competition, Arteta’s side is not going down without a fight.
man City have a ‘game in hand’, meaning if they win the rest of their games, they win the Premier League. Arsenal have played one more match than City, so they are essentially sitting ducks waiting for City to bypass them. The only thing they can do to try and fend off Pep’s men is to keep winning games – which they are doing.
Will Arteta’s side crumble under the pressure, or will they rise to the occasion?

Arsenal faced off against Manchester United during a mid-week game to see if they could stay on the top of the leaderboard going into the last two weeks of the season. If they drew or lost, that would be an almost-certain forfeiting of the first-place spot in the Premier League ladder. However, Arsenal FC rose to the occasion and won 1-0 against a dejected Mancunian side.
Even though United have been on a downward spiral in recent weeks due to injury, loss of center-backs available to play, low consistency, dejected morale, and terrible performances from Casemiro, it was still a huge win for Arsenal to beat United and continue their hope for first place.
Trossard scored a fantastic goal in the middle of the first half after Kai Havertz won the ball, played a fantastic pass, and got the play in motion. For a man who performed poorly at Chelsea FC last year, he has shone brightly for the Gunners this season under Arteta.
Arteta was extremely happy with his side’s energy, conviction, and determination to continue fighting until the very end.
‘We needed a result today in a really difficult place. Our history was not in favor of a result today. There was so much at stake and we’re happy with the result. We started the game really well and were dominant. We scored the goal and I think the goal led to slightly bad things because we started to play too safe…but we defended well and didn’t’ concede too much.’
Now, Arsenal wants Spurs to pull a huge upset against City to keep The Gunners firmly in first place leading into the last couple weeks of the season.

Last Few Weeks for Arsenal and Manchester City
City face off against Tottenham on May 15th at the Spurs stadium, a game that Arteta and his team hope will be a big upset so that City can remain in second place. After that intense matchup, Arsenal play Everton on May 20th for the final day of the season. City ends their 2023-2024 PL campaign with a game against West Ham on the same day.
Everton is currently 15th in the table, so it should (hypothetically) be an easier win for Arsenal on their last day of the year. However, Everton have won four out of their last five games and have been on a tear, which could play into their confidence.
For City, they face off against Tottenham, who sits in fifth, making for a very challenging game for both teams. Spurs want to win to secure firth place (or move up to fourth) and guarantee a spot in the Europa League next year. City needs to win so they can continue being hot on Arsenal’s tail.
The last game sees City play West Ham, a team that has lost three out of their last five games.
