Arsenal 2024 Summer Window: Striker Scramble

Riccardo Calafiori

The summer window is approaching and rumors are everywhere about which club is getting who. From big names like Osimhen that are moving around and every team wants to sign them and names like Solanke, yes, the Bournemouth striker is also on the list for a potential move out of Vitality Stadium.

The Gunners pulled out of the race for Victor Osimhen and now they are looking for a more affordable player. Reports suggest that Arsenal is interested in the £65 million-rated Dominic Solanke. Well, he is a young and talented striker, and he had a great season, but is he the player Arsenal needs? Can he lead the Gunners to the Premier League title? Let us explore.

Dominic Solanke: A Great Striker, But…

Without a doubt, Dominic Solanke has been a standout player for Bournemouth. He has consistently been a threat in front of goal, his physical makeup poses a threat to opposing defenders and he is also good in the air. His impressive tally last season tells all, as he played all the games in the league and scored 19 goals, which is an incredible feat.

Here is the question: Is he the right fit for Arsenal? Throughout their history, the Gunners have boasted prolific strikers who have been delivering performances week in and week out. The Gunners need a player to fill those boots and consistently deliver top-flight performances.

Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah have been great performers in the team but have not delivered a striker blow as needed. Solanke is prolific, but he is not the kind of player that Arsenal needs, he will just have the same impact the other strikers have had. Solanke will need time to integrate into the system and replicate the kind of impact expected at that level.

The Need for a Perfect Fit

Arsenal needs a player who can deliver top performances in crucial moments, a striker who can rise to the pressure and deliver goals when the stakes are high. That is why players like Victor Osimhen and Ollie Watkins are a perfect fit.

Both Watkins and Osimhen have proven themselves on the biggest stage. Watkins is a reliable goal scorer in the Premier League, consistently finding the back of the net and also creating chances for his teammates. He is the right fit for Arsenal, as he has experience in the Premier League.

Osimhen, on the other hand, offers a different kind of approach. His pace, power, and ability make him deadly in the box. He is fit for Arsenal because of the ability he has, what he can do, and his ability to seamlessly integrate with the team. He can also create opportunities for his fellow teammates.

The Verdict

Solanke is a great striker, and to see Arsenal have an interest in signing him shows what a great player he is. However, he does not seem to be a fit in Arteta’s system, as he has not established himself as a lethal number nine. Other players like Watkins and Osimhen have more experience and have proven to be lethal forwards, and the Gunners need players of such caliber.
