Arsenal with a Comfortable 2-0 Win to Start the Season

arsenal

Arsenal have cruised to a cozy 2-0 win in their first game of the 2024-2025 Premier League season, easily defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers to get started on the right note. Arsenal, the title contenders from last year, had everyone wondering if they could recreate the same form they had at the end of last year. And with a promising start to the new campaign, it seems as though Arteta has done his job in the off-season.

Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka were the two big names that the Arsenal fans were chanting as the game progressed. Havertz, a ‘flop’ for Chelsea when he played there, has improved under Arsenal’s reign, showing why he was such a big get as a German international. He netted the first goal of the season for the Gunners in the first half off of an incredible piece of play from Saka on the wing.

Although Wolverhampton gave them something to work for in the second half and made it less of a blowout, they still had a dominant match. Havertz had a chance to double his lead in the second half but missed an easy sitter — one that he will surely want back. However, the star boy of London, Saka, was able to give Arsenal more of a cushion in the second half. Arsenal now are following other teams in the league, like Slot’s Liverpool and Manchester United as the teams that have garnered three points from their first game on opening day.

And Arsenal could have even scored more goals in the match. Saka had numerous chances, but the Wolves goalkeeper was proving to be a hard person to beat. On the other side of the field, the Wolves strikers got on the end of a few crosses from the fullbacks and wingers, but David Raya was up to the challenge on many occasions.

Arsenal had a whopping 18 shots in the game with six on target, compared to Wolves’ nine shots and only three on target. Arsenal had 53% possession, which is only a little bit greater than Wolves’ 47% possession throughout the match. Arsenal was able to string together more than 400 passes, which helped them keep control of the match during the 90 minutes. Another reason for Arteta’s team success was their high pass completion rate, totaling 85% throughout the game. If Arsenal can keep up their attacking mentality, possession, and pass completion, they will be a team to reckon with this year.

Arsenal Looking Forward

Now, Arsenal faces off against Aston Villa next weekend in an away match that will see them take on Emery’s side. Aston Villa also claimed three points from their first game, so whoever wins will be at the top of the table heading into week three.
