Arsenal Without Crucial Defender Due to Long-Term Knee Injury

arsenal

Arsenal will have to start their 2024-2025 Premier League campaign without one of their most veteran and senior players in the backline. A crucial member of the starting eleven for the Gunners will be out for the beginning of the season, as well as even longer into the second round, due to a long-term knee injury that will see the man out for at least a few more weeks.

Arteta will have to fill the role of this crucial player before the start of the season as they finalize their starting eleven on the pitch during pre-season friendlies. This critical player was notably absent from the Gunners’ USA tour and their most recent win against Lyon, from the Ligue 1 French League, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Arsenal.

What will Arteta do now? Only time will tell.

Arsenal will be without Takehiro Tomiyasu for at least a few more weeks to start off the season on a tough note. The Gunners are hoping to come in hot, as they want to defend their top-three finish in the Premier League and give Manchester City another fight for first place. Arsenal held onto first place for multiple weeks last season, before being dethroned and kicked into second right before the final match of the year.

“I think it will take weeks on that one unfortunately,” Arteta said. “He’s going to have to be patient and work through it because I think it’s going to take a few weeks.”

Arteta will have to choose someone else to take Tomiyasu’s spot until he is healthy again. It seems as if Timber, Calafiori, Saliba, or White could take his spot before he comes back into the squad.

Takehiro Tomiyasu Stats

Tomiyasu was a great get for Arsenal, as he is a mid-20s center-back who can also be used as a full-back based on the current team’s situation. His versatility, maturity, and strength on and off the ball have made him a valuable asset for the North London team so far. Tomiyasu began his youth career at Avispa Fukuoka in 2009 and eventually entered the senior squad, where he made 45 appearances for the team.

Then, he moved to Sint-Truiden between 2018-2019, where he played an entire season and made 27 appearances of the club. He captured the attention of Bologna in Serie A, where he went on to make 61 appearances for his team in two seasons. Arsenal came calling in 2021, and he has since been a Gunner in London for Arteta’s squad. .
