The Arizona Diamondbacks won their 6th straight game today with a 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Diamondbacks were down 4-0 early on but rallied from behind to come out on top. Arizona is comfortably in a wild-card position heading into the season’s final month. They have been the hottest team in baseball since the all-star break.
The Diamondbacks came out of nowhere last season and made it to the World Series. After a rocky start to the 2024 campaign, the Diamondbacks have righted the ship and are primed for another run in October.
Diamondbacks Rally From Behind in Boston
Winners of their previous five games heading into Sunday afternoon’s game against the Red Sox, the Diamondbacks had already locked up another road series victory. Rafael Devers hit a three-run home run to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Arizona could have just mailed the rest of game in knowing they had the series victory in hand already. They did not settle, they wanted the sweep.
The Dbacks scored six runs in the next two innings to take a 6-4 lead. The biggest swing of the bat was a Eugenio Suarez three three-run home run in the 6th inning to take the lead. Arizona stretched out the lead to 7-3 before finishing it off in the 9th inning inning with a 7-4 win. This was the Dback’s sixth straight win. They head back home to the desert after a long cross-country road trip.
Peaking at the Right Time
The Arizona Diamondbacks were looking like the 2023 run to the World Series was just a flash in the pan when they were battling to be .500 for the first half of the this season. Since then, they have flipped the switch and are proving to be one of the most dangerous teams in baseball.
The Dbacks now have a record of 75-56. They are at the top of the National League Wild Card standings and only three games behind the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers. With 4 games remaining against the Dodgers and a full month of regular season baseball to play, this division race may just come down to the wire.
The Diamondbacks will now fly back from Boston to Arizona where they will start a three games series against the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The Mets are just 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card spot so this series is huge for them. The home stretch of the marathon that is regular season baseball is here.
