Aram Amirkhanyan Edges Gor Yeritsyan in Close Fight

Aram Amirkhanyan

In a highly approved welterweight fight in the Friday night event, Aram Amirkhanyan clinched a victory over Gor Yeritsyan, a completely non-stipulated fighter. The fight was held at Commerce Casino in Commerce, California, and like any good fight, it was a strategic battle that depicted the prowess and endurance a fighter must have.

The fight was the co-main event of the night, where Aram Amirkhanyan (15-1-1, 4 KOs) and Yeritsyan (19-1, 14 KOs) had a technically oriented fight. Both the fighters were from Armenia, and they had records of competition against each other in their amateur careers.

Yeritsyan put pressure on his opponent, proving to be too aggressive in the fight, Aram Amirkhanyan, who claimed to be from Russia. It also consisted of cases of ranging and, more so, in the first half of the fight. Despite the experience, Yeritsyan, 29, scored a straight punch to the head of Amirkhanyan, 34, in the fifth round when the latter appeared to be wobbling.

Tactical Battle Between Aram AmirKhanyan and Gor Yeritsyan

Yet, somewhat surprisingly, enough, as much as Yeritsyan seemed to have her grips on the match, Aram Amirkhanyan seemed to have the size and the forward pressure that finally affected the judges’ decisions. Aram Amirkhanyan also made a blunder in countering Yeritsyan as he reduced him to edge him, which made him hustle as the match dragged on. The intensity and level of fitness of Yeritsyan, coupled with the typical rough nature of the fight the two experienced, was one of the most challenging bouts of his fights.

The judges eventually gave the win to Aram Amirkhanyan by 96-94, while one of the judges gave the victory to Yeritsyan by 96-94. Most viewers believed that Yeritsyan had sufficiently clinched the victory; thus, the judges’ decision only intensified the intrigue.

Verduzco Dominates Davis in Unanimous Decision

Earlier that night, Iyana Verduzco earned a unanimous decision against Colleen Davis in a six-round fight, placing her record at 2-0. Verduzco, 21, originating from Los Angeles, stunned spectators when he landed a cut above Davis’s eye with his lead right hook in the first round. These variants pointed out the difference in the level of skills between Verduzco and Davis because Verduzco was a much more professional and experienced fighter who managed to keep the upper hand during the fight against the 33-year-old woman from Pittsburgh.  All three judges scored the fight 60-54 in favor of Verduzco, despite Davis’s commendable toughness.

The junior lightweight fight featured Abel Mejia with an undefeated record of 5-0, 3 KOs; he showed great heart to come back from a second-round knockdown to beat Jose Jesus Correa 6-10, 4 KOs. A Mexican by the name of Correa, forty-six years old, knocked down Mejia, a Californian, twenty-one years old, with an overhand right in the second round. But Mejia came back to his feet in the fourth round with an exact left hook that led to a knockout at 0:55. The win illustrated Mejia’s last-stage running strength.

Benito Decides to Stop Landing in the Second Round

In another fight in the junior lightweight division, Jaybrio Pe Benito (5-0, 4 KOs) thrashed Michael Land (1-5-1, 1 KO), knocking him out in the second round. Benito, 26 years old, from Hawaii, who was in training with Freddie Roach, confirmed his punching drama, the unloading position of Land’s corner, and the referee’s cessation at 1:30 of the second circle. Being that Land, 24, competed with his cornermen not coming into the ring, he protested the stoppage, looking fuming after the fight.

All in all, the evening at Commerce Casino has shown great performances and memorable moments, which will add to the constant development of professional boxing.
