Anthony Edwards Regrets Calling out Kyrie Irving in May 2024

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards reportedly regrets calling out Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving in May 2024. Edwards, 24, called out Irving, 32, after the Timberwolves pulled off the biggest Game 7 comeback in NBA history and eliminated the Denver Nuggets with a 98-90 win. Edwards now regrets his decision, which might’ve been a spur-of-the-moment one.

Netflix recently released a new series, Starting 5, featuring five NBA stars, including Edwards. In the series, Netflix showed Edwards calling out Irving after Game 7 against the Nuggets. Read on for further details.

Anthony Edwards’ Regret Over Kyrie Irving

Anthony Edwards has never been afraid to say what’s on his mind and was willing to attack that in the game. However, Edwards had been reported to regret calling out Kyrie Irving in the 2024 Western Conference Finals. Irving hasn’t publicly commented on Edwards’ regret as of Saturday, October 12.

Edwards said in a rather thought-provoking scene on Netflix’s Starting 5, “My matchup [is] gonna be Kyrie [Irving], so that’s gonna be fun” on a television broadcast, and then showed footage of him being gassed in the game.

Kyrie Center recently posted on X, “Anthony Edwards during the Western Conference Finals: “[Jaden McDaniels] you got Kyrie (Irving), I’m tired… I should’ve left Kyrie alone by saying that, I wish I can go and take that back.” In that post you can see Edwards telling Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels to guard Irving and the then-Dallas Mavericks forward Derrick Jones Jr. asking Edwards if he was tired. Edwards responded in just two words, “Hell yeah.”

Anthony Edwards’ footage in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals was arguably questionable. Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves have less NBA playoff experience than Kyrie Irving, a 2016 NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But, when it came to Game 1, Irving scored 30 points, while Edwards scored just 19 points on 6-for-16 shooting. Edwards appeared to be so gassed after chasing Irving around the entire game. The Dallas Mavericks merely won the game by a final score of 108-105.

Anthony Edwards Sat Down with Netflix

Anthony Edwards’ energy on and off the court has made him a popular player in the NBA. However, Edwards’ words might’ve been considered inappropriate either way. Edwards recently sat down with Netflix to further discuss his calling out Kyrie Irving in the 2024 Western Conference Finals.

In a recent sit-down interview, Edwards told Netflix, “Yeah, I should’ve left Kyrie (Irving) alone, yeah, going and saying that right after being dog-tired fighting back from a Game 7 (against the Denver Nuggets). I wish I could take that back.”

The Dallas Mavericks eliminated the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 104-103 win in Game 5 of the 2024 Western Conference Finals. The Mavericks won all three games at the Target Center. Irving dominated the Mavericks and Timberwolves series, averaging 27 points per game.
