Los Angeles Angels Luis Rengifo with Season-Ending Injury

Luis Rengifo, Angels

Los Angeles Angels Third Baseman Luis Rengifo will undergo season-ending right wrist surgery as reported by Robert Murray of Fansided. Rengifo has undergone multiple stints on the injured list this season for wrist inflammation. He will now be sidelined until next season while he heals up.

The 27-year-old Luis Rengifo was having a career year, hitting .300 in 78 games. His previous career-high batting average for a season in the MLB was .264 in 2022 and 2023. It is disappointing to see such a promising year end due to injury.

This is another blow to an Angels team having yet another down season. Their record has dropped to 49-63 and they are 9.5 games out of a playoff spot. It looks like this will be the 10th season in a row the Angels will fail to make the playoffs.

Wrist Injury Ends Luis Rengifo’s Season

Luis Rengifo was one of the lone bright spots for the 2024 Los Angeles Angels. He led the team in batting average with his .300 batting average. He had 85 hits in 283 at-bats. They have been scratching and clawing for any optimism after a decade of falling short of the postseason, the loss of Shohei Ohtani in free agency, and the countless injuries with Mike Trout. Rengifo needing wrist surgery sucks the life out of any of that positivity.

Rengifo was put on the 10-day injured list on July 5 with right wrist inflammation. This was after he fouled a pitch straight off his lower arm. After missing 15 games, Rengifo returned to the lineup. He went 6 for 32 in the nine games after returning, dipping his average from .315 to .300. The injury was still bothering him. The Angels placed him back on the Injured List on August 2. They officially announced today he would miss the remainder of the 2024 season while getting his wrist surgically repaired.

Since 2015, there may not be a baseball fanbase that has endured the brutality that the Los Angeles Angels have. They have missed the playoffs every year while constantly being toward the top of Major League Baseball in terms of highest payroll.

They have had two of the greatest players of all time playing for them in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, yet still have not gotten to see October baseball. Surely that can’t be possible. It’s baffling. Now Shohei Ohtani is gone, and Mike Trout is out for the year once again with an injury. Luis Rengifo being out for the season is just the cherry on top of the disaster that is the Los Angeles Angels.
