Angel Reese had her WNBA record double-double streak end at 15 games earlier today in the New York Liberty’s 81-67 win over Reese and the Chicago Sky. Reese finished the game with eight points and 16 rebounds. She was seeking her 16th straight double-double, but the New York Liberty had other ideas.
On the last possession of the game, Reese got the ball only needing one more basket to extend her streak. The Liberty quadruple-teamed her and she was unable to get up a shot. She was visibly upset as the buzzer sounded as the Chicago Sky lost by 14 and the streak came to an end.
Reese has been a polarizing figure since her days at LSU and it has only continued during her first year in the WNBA.
Angel Reese’s Tough Shooting Night
Going into Saturday afternoon’s Chicago Sky matchup with the New York Liberty, the number one story was if The Sky’s new star was going to continue her record-breaking streak of double-doubles to 16 games. In addition to winning the game, the Liberty also managed to hold Reese to 3/13 shooting from the field and 2 points shy of a double-double.
Reese has great rookie season averages of 13.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. However, she has faced a lot of criticism. She is only shooting 41% from the field, with most of her attempts coming from right under the basket. This has resulted in her grabbing more rebounds from her own misses to boost those rebound totals.
With this streak ending, Reese won’t be under a microscope as much in the coming weeks. If she starts to string together a lot of double-doubles again, this will be another talking point in the world of sports.
WNBA Rookie of the Year Race

The race for this year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year has arguably been the most compelling one in the history of the league. The star power in the WNBA is as prominent as it has ever been. Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have been stars for years before they were even drafted because of their battles in college. Now that they are both faces of the league, they have gotten even more prominent.
After a rocky start to the season, Caitlin Clark has averaged 16.8 points, 7.8 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game in her rookie year. Each of their teams; the Indiana Fever for Clark and Chicago Sky for Reese, have been up and down. The Fever are 10-14 while the Sky are 9-14. If the season were to end right now, they would be the final two teams in the WNBA playoffs.
Reese and Chicago Sky Looking To Bounce Back
When one streak ends, another begins. Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky will look to snap their two-game skid when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
The Aces are led by Center A’ja Wilson and Guard Kelsey Plum. Wilson is the 2022 WNBA MVP and is averaging 27 points and 11 rebounds per game this season. A’ja Wilson was the Defensive Player of the Year last season. She is averaging 27.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game this season. Angel Reese will have her hands full going up against those two.
