Tottenham Hotspur are having a great 2023/2024 season in the Premier League as they are fifth with 53 points, just 11 points behind the league leaders, Arsenal. Yet, the club is engaged in a season ticket controversy that is irritating some of its supporters. Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s manager, came to the club’s defense stating that their new overseas fans are eligible to buy tickets like local diehards who have been cheering the club do.
The Concession Rate Debate
Postecoglou made the remarks while Tottenham are under criticism for plotting to raise next season’s ticket prices by six percent. Also, the club wants to end concessions for fans above 65 years. These plans have prompted The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust to write a letter to Richard Masters, the Premier League’s Chief Executive. The Trust is asking for the League’s support as it opposes Tottenham’s plans.
The letter states that the club’s plan will prevent loyal fans below 65 years from buying season tickets at senior concession rates, terming it uncouth. Affected individuals fear that “plastics” might replace them. The disrespectful term refers to Tottenham diehards who have thick wallets despite having a weak emotional attachment to them. They include affluent overseas supporters.

Postecoglou clarified that he intends to make local fans continue feeling appreciated and attend Tottenham’s games. But, he doesn’t want just anybody being in the stand. Still, the club manager added that he loves and defends overseas supporters.

The manager refuted the Supporters’ Trust letter stating that Tottenham accommodates local and foreign fans. Postecoglou backed the club’s plan stating that one might refer to him as being “touristy” and “plastic” since he is from another country. Yet, he loves football and can easily access any Premier League game from anywhere.
Postecoglou disclosed that Tottenham has a wide fanbase globally and it needs to accommodate each supporter. He defended the term “plastic fans” claiming it isn’t disrespectful to use it to refer to a supporter who can travel from a distant country to watch the club’s game. They might have started backing Tottenham two years ago and are as loyal as local fans who have cheered it for many years.
Conte’s Talks Irritate Ange Postecoglou

The club manager revealed that Radu Dragusin, one of Tottenham’s latest signings will debut on Saturday as they face Fulham. The defender will replace Mickey van de Ven who is nursing a hamstring injury and is expected to be fit after the international break.
Even so, Postecoglou turned down discussions about Antonio Conte, Tottenham’s former manager. Conte criticized the club last year when they drew 3-3 with Southampton, accusing them of being selfish. Ange Postecoglou calmly stated he won’t focus on past games. Instead, he is concentrating on creating a conducive environment for each player to exploit their full potential on the pitch.
