Ange Postecoglou: 28-year-old Winger’s Future Is Uncertain

Timo Werner Signed by Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou said Tottenham is currently deliberating whether or not to exercise their option to sign Timo Werner, as his season was unfortunately cut short due to injury. According to sources, Werner will unfortunately be unable to play again due to a hamstring problem he sustained in Sunday’s 3-2 home defeat against Arsenal. It is anticipated that the 28-year-old will continue his rehabilitation at Spurs instead of immediately returning to his parent club, Red Bull Leipzig. Tottenham acquired Werner in January through a loan agreement that also grants them the option to purchase him for a fee of around £15 million.

Timo Werner’s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain, according to Ange Postecoglou. With two goals and three assists from 14 appearances, the German player has certainly made his mark. Ange Postecoglou has praised Werner’s positive impact at Spurs. However, the Australian made it clear that a final decision regarding his future would only be made after the season concludes.

“The only reason for that is that it’s not about the here and now, it’s about the overall strategy,” Postecoglou said. “I’m talking about where I want us to be [in the] next six months to be in a better place than today. Timo we signed until the end of the season on loan and he’s part of that strategy to see what we need to do in the summer and can we do it.

“Are there going to be other gaps and where does Timo fit in with that strategy? So we have a plan in place, and that was irrespective. I think he’s been very good for us. He came in at a really important time in January when Sonny [Son Heung-Min] was away [at the Asian Cup] , then Richy [Richarlison] got an injury.

“We were short in wide areas. Him coming in was very helpful for us and I think he’s made an impact but in my mind to make those definitive decisions, I still need some clarity about what we’ve got here first.”

Timo Werner arrived at Spurs at a crucial time when their key forwards were not available for selection. It is not certain however whether Ange Postecoglou wants the German winger to be a part of his squad next season.

Tottenham’s Manager Indifferent About Tottenham’s Set-Piece Defending

https://gty.im/2151069344

Tottenham’s set-piece defending has once again come under scrutiny as they conceded two goals from corners in the North London Derby against Arsenal. The performance of Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has faced further criticism as a result. In his entire career, the 58-year-old manager has never sought the services of a set-piece specialist coach. Unfortunately, this season, Tottenham Hotspur has allowed a total of 12 goals in the Premier League that have originated from dead-ball situations. There are only five teams with a worse record. In response to the question about whether he was bothered by the scrutiny, Ange Postecoglou cleverly quoted a line from Billy Joel’s song “You May Be Right.”

“Not at all. I get it. It’s not an answer (people want). To quote Billy Joel, ‘you may be right, you may be crazy, but maybe what you’re looking for is a lunatic,’” Ange Postecoglou said. .

“I’m just not interested in that. I never have been. Many of you have done enough research on me to know that this isn’t the first time I’ve been asked about set pieces in my coaching career.

“There’s an underlying reason for this that I feel very, very comfortable with.” When asked to explain that reason, Ange Postecoglou said: “No. Work a little, buddy. Come on.”

Ben Davies will unfortunately be unavailable until next season due to a calf problem. As a result, Emerson Royal is expected to step in as the left-back for Thursday’s match against Chelsea.
