Formula 1 newcomer, 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli struggled in his first practice session at the Italian Grand Prix. Holy wake-up call! He said that he could have been more careful with his pace and instead of increasing his pace to the next level he should have done it slowly. Despite the crash, Andrea Kimi Antonelli chose to stay positive. He thanked his team for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to his future in the sport.
He also recalled that he was having some uncomfortable feelings after the crash and as such his media engagements were called off to allow him to go back to his hotel to rest.
Support from Toto Wolff and Mercedes
Immediately reacting to the incident, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said that he would support the young driver. Wolff said yes it is unfortunate that the crash occurred but at the same time said that these are part and part of the growing process when a new driver comes in
Wolff also pointed out that it’s better to have a driver who needs to be slowed down than one who needs to be sped up, implying that Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s aggressive approach is a positive sign of his potential. Toto included
“What we saw from one and a half laps was astonishing,” Wolff added,
He expressed confidence that he will recover from this setback. The team’s support for the key player is also important in these sorts of situations. In the meantime, Andrea Kimi is motivated and is willing to have a good comeback after the crash in the Italian GP in no time.
