Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed his reservations about his club not participating in the upcoming 2025 Club World Cup. When the club came out and said they would be part of the competition, it raised the question: was there a miscommunication? because it seems like they had already agreed on not participating before Ancelotti came out in public to talk about it.
There have been concerns about the 2025 club World Cup and how it will affect the football calendar and some players like Mbappe and Griezmann have come out and raised their voices. They claim the calendar is already full, and adding more events, especially in 2025, where they have a World Cup in 2026, will exhaust players both physically and mentally.
While Ancelotti’s reservations were not about the health of players because he mentioned how FIFA is paying the club the same amount they get from each friendly they play, it shows how there is a negative reaction to this event. With the club World Cup around the corner, we are waiting to see how it will play out, Will Real Madrid back out, or will they play as they said?
Ancelotti’s Controversial Comments
In an interview with an Italian publication, Ancelotti said Real Madrid will deny the Club World Cup invitation from FIFA as other teams will. He continued, stating that Los Blancos earn the same money FIFA is offering them to be part of this event. He claimed the Champions League winners earn 20 million euros per game in the preseason friendlies.
This raised eyebrows as to how confident he was when he said that other European teams would turn down the invitation from Europe Does he know something the public would like to know? Well, the club was quick to turn down, come out, and say they would be part of the FIFA Club World Cup, which again sent more shock waves. This has sparked confusion and speculation.
Walk-Back Comments on Real Madrid Club World Cup Participation
Following the club’s official statement, Ancelotti took to social media to clear the air. He distanced himself from the suggestion of boycotting the Club World Cup, he claimed his previous comments were not interpreted in a way he intended. He emphasized his desire to compete for trophies, stating nothing could be further from his interest than to reject the possibility of playing in a tournament.
However, his first statement suggested that Real Madrid and other European clubs might be planning to boycott the Club World Cup. When you take into consideration the financial rewards, it seems that most established European clubs do not want to take part in this event.
While football has become unprofitable, business clubs are looking at ways to bring in more revenue. If a big club like Los Blancos earns 20 million euros per game in preseason friendlies, why would they take part in a tournament that takes a month and earn the same amount of money? While the FIFA Club World Cup is just a project for Gianni Infantino to take control of and monetize soccer.
Despite the initial comments by both the club and Carlo Ancelotti, we look forward to watching the Club World Cup.
