Now that the heat of the Daytona 500 has fizzled, Cup drivers’ qualification for the Feb. 23 Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta is in full swing. All eyes were on Ryan Blaney this morning as he led the field of 39 in just over 30.908 seconds. He fought and won over Penske teammate No. 2 Austin Cindric in under 000.2 seconds, earning his 11th career pole. Blaney’s Ford Mustang Darkhorse handled perfectly, and he couldn’t have predicted a better outcome.
This seemed to be a trend among today’s top ten drivers who qualified, except for No. 8 Kyle Busch. Drivers seemed less pressured on the 1.54-mile quad-oval in comparison to Daytona. There was no need to engage in multiple rounds of single-lap qualifying. Instead, drivers ran single laps in the first round to determine the top ten competitors. What does this mean for Sunday?
