While Alpine continues to focus on the last part of the current Formula 1 campaign, the French squad is reportedly already planning for a major revamp to provide the basis for its 2025 challenger. The 2024 campaign has been a difficult one for Alpine as the A524 model has been a problem right from the start. Sitting right at the back in Bahrain, the season’s start race, the team has had its fair share of troubles with change of key members and the technical team, and other challenges.
Challenges and Changes in 2024
The start of the 2024 season turned out to be very problematic for the Alpine company. The car performance at the A524 was relatively poor for the team especially at the initial races. Such problems were made worse by a radical reshuffle of Marussia’s organisational structure where Technical director Matt Harman transferred to Williams, and where Team principal, Bruno Famin, was also due to leave. But the same period has also experienced new entrants into Alpine, such as Flavio Briatore in the F1 team advisor and David Sanchez in the executive technical director. The team will be managed by Oliver Oakes after the summer break, to provide a new leadership for the team.
However, Alpine has had a few early hiccups, nevertheless, the team has made good strides especially on the race track. The team, which is based in Enstone, has gone past its prosecution phase and has transformed into a more regular points gatherer. At the current moment, Alpine ranks eighth in the constructors’ championship, but the team has proved itself to be determined and flexible. The introduction of a major upgrade at the Belgian feature race was a major enhancement, and the team is now targeting a large end-of-year update.
Upcoming Upgrades and Future Strategy

The latter includes David Sanchez, who came to Alpine in May and is actively involved in organizing the further evolution of the team. Sanchez also labelled the next update as a significant process in their growth plan. It hasrecently been estimated that this upgrade will be “quite big” and will form the basis for the team’s 2025 car. Sanchez reveals that over the course of, the team had plans of effectively changing the Formula 1 car in two stages and at the moment the second stage is the focus whereby the objective is to boost the downforce and the top speed.
Before the round seven break earlier in the season, Alpine was struggling with an overweight car and lots of traction problems. However, Sanchez said that the team is now moving from more of a troubleshooting mode to one of just trying to achieve higher speed.
Aiming for Formula 1 Success with Bold Upgrades
Sanchez expressed confidence in the team’s strategic direction, emphasizing that the focus is now on refining the current car and preparing for future challenges. Sanchez stated that
“From an infrastructure point of view, the team was already well advanced with its plans,” Sanchez explained. “But we looked together about whether we needed to prioritize a few items more than others.”
Alpine’s aggressive upgrade strategies and various tactics this year show that the team is ready to overcome its potential problems and difficulties in 2024 and future years. Recently restructured with new heads and peculiar development concept, Alpine is eager to become an important player in Formula 1
