Shadab Khan, Pakistan’s all-rounder, has spoken out about his recent struggles with the bat and ball on the international stage. He is having a wonderful start in the Season Five of the Lanka Premier League with the Colombo Strikers. He scored a hat-trick in his maiden game against the Kandy Falcons and continues to thrive in the conditions, taking 16 wickets, the highest by any bowler in LPL season.
As the LPL caravan proceeded from Dambulla to Colombo, Shadab Khan took his third four-wicket haul of the tournament against the Jaffna Kings on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Shadab Khan’s Outstanding Run in LPL 2024
After taking 16 wickets, Shadab Khan has proved excellent for the Colombo Strikers in the LPL. It’s the highest of any bowler in the league. As Shadab continued to break records, he spoke up about his difficulty in performing for the Pakistan squad.
The 25-year-old said that he had been suffering over the previous three months. He had gone wicketless in his last seven international outings for Pakistan. The spinner addressed the issue while speaking to the media and expressed his feelings. He said:
I struggled for three months. I hadn’t taken a wicket in the previous seven international matches. I arrived here and started bowling, and now I am constantly taking wickets. That is the beauty of cricket. You have to appreciate these situations as well… sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail. But the approach you follow must be constant.
Challenges in the Twenty20 Format
Shadab Khan also assessed the LPL conditions, noting that the ground in Dambulla was ideal for spinners. However, he recognized that T20 cricket has gotten more difficult, with sides often scoring 200 or more runs. As a result, Shadab underlined the need for spinners to try out different strategies of bowling.
Also, Shadab recalled his debut appearance in the league. He stated that the ground was ideal for spinners. However, he went on to say that a T20 bowler must vary his approach to be effective in different situations.
“Sri Lanka’s pitch helped me a lot since it was sluggish and gripped a little… However, T20 cricket is not difficult anymore since 200 is quickly modified. As a spinner, you must have variations because on flat tracks, without variations, you may go for runs.
No doubt, with variety, you may take wickets while still containing runs. So it is crucial, as is landing it in a favorable location,” Shadab Khan stated.
Vision Of Shadab For Current Tournament
Shadab has already established an unstoppable spinning web. But now he wants to do something extraordinary to lift the game for his franchise Colombo Strikers.
Looking ahead, Shadab highlighted his ambition to contribute as an all-rounder to the Colombo Strikers in all aspects of the game, not just bowling. The 25-year-old, Shadab Khan, indicated that he plans to play as an all-rounder in the game for his organization, the Colombo Strikers.
“Well, I am playing for my team, which is a very good sign. I am the key bowler, and taking wickets is a good indication for both me and the team. I wish to contribute to all three phases. So far, I have contributed twice as a bowler and fielder. Shadab Khan added, “Hopefully, I can also contribute with the bat.”
Shadab Khan recently led the Islamabad United team in the PSL. And he won the PSL title by a great margin. That incredible victory showed his all-round talent as well as his captaincy skills.
