Aljamain Sterling Withdraws from UFC 307 Fight Due to Serious Injury

Aljamain Sterling Withdraws from UFC 307

UFC Featherweight contender Aljamain Sterling posted on social media on Wednesday that he will not be able to fight at UFC 307 due to an injury he suffered while training. The former Bantamweight champion said the injury will not require surgery but the UFC doctors told him that he would not be given enough time to fully recover before the fight, scheduled to happen on October 5 against the Russian undefeated Movsar Evloev.

Without Sterling, who can no longer spar, there is some doubt whether Evloev will be on the card at all. Sterling didn’t elaborate on the injury but he shared a video from the training when his partner, Jeremy Kennedy applied a kimura from the bottom position which seemed to hurt his arm.

Aljamain Sterling said to his fans on his YouTube channel that he won’t be competing against anyone in the upcoming UFC 307. According to fans and people who researched the situation, and spoke to MMA Fighting, the medicine did not work as quickly as desired to heal a left elbow injury that Sterling does not require surgery to repair.

Even if Sterling is back in the ring by the end of the year, there can be no way he is going to fight at UFC 307. At the moment, the UFC is not booking Evloev a fight with someone else, but Sterling would like to delay the fight. But he knows there are chanes the undefeated Russian will not be interested in continuing after the fight was stopped.

Unfortunately I have to break the news I will not be competing in Salt Lake City at UFC 307. In sparring, I had an injury, not require surgery, but I was advised by the UFC medical staff that I would not be able to properly compete in this sort of a turnaround, Aljamain Sterling said this on his Youtube Channel.

Main Event and Co-Main Event

It is not good for the UFC 307’s card but much worse for Sterling who wanted to defeat Evloev and perhaps get a chance at the featherweight championship title shot. Instead of that, now he has to sit and wait as to what the UFC has in store for the next fight and he will be in with full power. Regarding UFC 307, it has been clear that it will take place featuring two title fights on the night. For the light heavyweight title, Pereira will be up against Rountree Jr. while from the women’s division, Pennington will fight Pena for the bantamweight title.

Movsar, if you still really want to punch this handsome face, I put the challenge out to you to push the fight back and wait. Wait for daddy. I will be back soon. Possibly do this in December. That’s pretty much all I got, Aljamain Sterling said this to his opponent.

Final Thoughts

Aljamain Sterling does not need to worry much about this fight because this was not a fight for the title of the Featherweight Division. Although he would have come near the title shot he can still achieve a lot more in the future. As far as Movsar is concerned UFC will make sure to schedule another fight for him because this fight is already hyped up and scheduling another fight would disturb the situation.
