However, it is not clear who will fight him; Alexander has made his decision clear. The former featherweight champion has not competed since losing the 145-pound title to Ilia Topuria by a knockout they had in February.

Alexander Volkanovski said he is very excited about this event, especially when the UFC is going to Australia on February 9. Most importantly, Volkanovski would like to face the winner of the UFC 308 fight. The winner of UFC featherweight title holders Topuria against Max Holloway will face Alexander Volkanovski next as a No.1 Challenger.
However, the 36-year-old champ realizes that a few problems can stop him from participating in the upcoming match and then fighting again in February 2025. He wants Topuria or Holloway to be ready to fight against him soon enough, though; that’s why Volkanovski is focusing on this fight very soon so that everyone can be mentally prepared for it.
Volkanovski said this during a local press conference announcing the event via Submission Radio. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to make sure that I am on that card. I’ll be entertaining in Sydney in February, 100 percent. Whether it is for the title, an interim [title], lightweight title, I don’t care what it is. If for some reason I can’t get a fight, I’ll entertain on the DJ decks or something. I’ll find a way to do it.”
UFC 308 and Diego Lopes
The fans are excited to see this match, but we have to know that nothing has been confirmed to this day, and it will probably not be until UFC 312. Volkanovski believes that another fighter is also waiting for the title fight, but they will sort things out.
As we know, Lopes will be the most probable challenger if Topuria or Holloway is out of the picture. Lopes, the Brazilian featherweight who recently has built a great streak and defeated many famous fighters, will be the backup fighter in the title clash in Abu Dhabi on October 26th. Further, Volkanovski is willing to face Lopes to ensure he can compete in Australia in February.
Alexander Volkanovski said this about the participants of UFC 308. “I’d say it would be an exciting one with Diego Lopes if that was going to happen. If not, it’s Max or Ilia. I think he’s proven himself time and time again. So it looks like I might have to do No. 4 with the guy so we’ll see what happens. I’d probably like to compete with Ilia, get that win back, to be quite honest but I was asked the question who do I think would win, I thought it probably would be Max. But whoever it is, they’ve got the belt so that’s exciting.”
