The undisputed champion in Light Heavyweight, champion holder, Alex Pereira is to fight in UFC 307. He will fight the fast-rising star Khalil Rountree, who has displayed immense KO strength and has thrashed his opponents, in Salt Lake City, Utah next month. As the title holder, this fight looks set to be one of the most exciting bouts for the whole year, and while a lot of people expect him to take out Rountree on the feet, Rountree’s team appeared to suggest that that may not be the case at all.
New Champion with a Different Mentality?
As an Ex-middleweight title holder, with a current light-heavyweight belt, Alex Pereira is considered to be the fear factor of the striker with a nap violent power. Last, he fought at UFC 303 in June this year and his second-round high-kick knockout of Jiri Prochazka further cemented his reign as the champion of the following division. He has the striking power that he’s used to finishing off his opponents, and this has characterized his career. But Rountree’s head coach John Wood has a different opinion on this, he preferred that Pereira might opt for wrestling in his next fight as the norm is not always the best strategy.
Rountree’s Meteoric Rise

The number eight-ranked Light Heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree deserves it as he has made it through crucial wins. Rountree has been a force to reckon with in the division and heads to the fight having won his last five fights. However, his last win was in December of the previous year when he put out of contention, former title contender, Anthony Smith by a KO. Rountrees’ attacking mentality, coupled with his knockout capability is a serious challenge to Alex Pereira’s throne.
However, Rountree’s team continues to be conservative but optimistic about the opportunities they are experiencing. Wood stated that Rountree’s preparation has been focused entirely on preparing for the unpredictable aspects of Alex Pereira’s game.
Final Thoughts: Alex Pereira’s Strategy in Question
It is evident that Alex Pereira has a powerful striking game but rumors came out about him changing things up in the octagon. It is assumed that he will try to utilize wrestling as a means of softening the impact of attacks from Rountree, according to Wood. This might be an avenue that he exploits in his next fight as some observers have seen him training in his grappling mechanisms given the fact that Rountree is a professional striker.
However, the camp of Pereira has remained mum about the new strategies. Fighting has not been a staple of his kickboxing game and even though he has not used much of his fighting skills in his UFC career, the nature of the MMA allows for a pull-out-of-the-hat strategy in the Octagon. This will be a tough fight between these two aggressive fighters, and fans will be entertained to see their favorite fighters in action.
