Al Nassr and Al Taawoun Meet in Saudi Super Cup

Al Nassr will kick off their season against Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Super Cup. The two teams are set to meet in the semi-final on Wednesday. Last season, Al-Taawoun finished fourth in the league, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr secured the second spot, with Al-Hilal winning the league title.

Al-Taawoun will be playing their third match of the season, having previously faced only two teams in pre-season. They lost 2-0 to Zorya Luhansk and drew 1-1 with Triglav Kranj. Their upcoming match against Al Nassr will be their first in a competitive tournament.

On the other hand, the Cr7-led team’s pre-season was disappointing, as they did not secure any wins. Their most recent game ended in a 3-0 loss to Almeria. As they prepare for the clash with Al-Taawoun, Ronaldo, who did not play in their last match, may be included in the starting lineup. This game is expected to be full of excitement, and fans will be eager to see the 39-year-old Ronaldo back on the pitch.

Head-to-Head Rivalry Throughout the Years

The two teams have faced each other 34 times in all competitions. As anticipated, the capital club holds the advantage with 24 victories, while Al Taawoun has won six times and four matches have ended in draws. They have only competed once in the Super Cup, where Al-Alami emerged victorious with a 5-4 win on penalties.

Al-Alami has experienced defeats in their last two Super Cup appearances, scoring just one goal in each match. In their previous nine competitive games, Al Nassr has lost only once, a penalty shootout defeat to Al Hilal in the King Cup final in May. The last 19 encounters between the two teams have yielded clear outcomes, with the capital club securing 13 wins. Al-Alami has failed to score in two of their previous four matches against Al Dhiaab.

This rivalry is expected to live up to the mark as they take on each other once again. Al Nassr looks forward to even strengthening their statistics against Al Taawoun, who will also look on to upset the Saudi League runners-up.

Team News and Possible Starting-Line-ups

Al-Taawoun will have the entire team fit to face Al-Nassr in the Super Cup semi-final. Meanwhile, Al-Nassr is set to be without goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqeedi. On the other hand, Anderson Talisca, Sami Al-Najei, and Bento Krepski will be doubtful for the game. Both the teams are keen to start their season with the best line-up possible. A win here for the set of players involved will get the teams going and also result in a guaranteed top 2 spot.

Al-Taawoun predicted lineup (4-3-3): Malison; Al-Mufarriji, Slaluli, Al Ahmad, Al Shuayl; Baker, Al Mahdioui, Bahusayn; Al Kuwaykibi, Pedro, Barrow

Al-Nassr predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Amin Al-Bukhari; Al-Ghanam, Alawjami, Al-Amri, Telles; Khabir, Brozovic; Yahiya, Otavio, Mane; Ronaldo
