Al Hilal Nearing Invincibility With €38m Deal for Joao Cancelo

Joao Cancelo

Reports from England, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, indicate that Manchester City has reached an agreement to sell Joao Cancelo, a player who was previously associated with Barcelona, to Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal for over 35 million euros. With the transfer window closing soon, Cancelo’s situation is becoming more urgent.

The Portuguese full-back, who was on loan at Barcelona last season following a late transfer, is keen to secure a new club. Yet, his choices appear constrained. While Joao Cancelo still hopes for a return to Barcelona, the Catalan club currently does not consider him a high priority. Meanwhile, Manchester City is actively seeking to transfer  Joao Cancelo and seems to have struck a deal with Al Hilal. The Saudi club is prepared to pay 35 million euros for him, an amount that Barcelona is unlikely to offer. This situation portrays the financial limitations Barcelona faces, which hinder their ability to compete with offers from wealthy clubs like Al Hilal.

Al Hilal’s interest in Joao Cancelo is part of their plan to bolster their defense, which already includes strong players like Kalidou Koulibaly and Renan Lodi. Manchester City, keen to finalize Cancelo’s move, is encouraging him to consider the Saudi offer, recognizing it as a financially advantageous opportunity for both the club and the player.

Joao Cancelo, who can operate on either side of defense and is adept at moving into midfield to support Rodri when City are in possession, has been a standout performer. His impact is felt at both ends of the field, and Guardiola has been impressed with how swiftly the Portugal international has adapted to his new midfield role. While Cancelo has primarily been a right-back throughout his career, his versatility and adaptability have made him an attractive option for Guardiola. He is proficient in playing both as a full-back and a wing-back.

Financial Criteria Involved

Joao Cancelo’s options are limited, and Barcelona’s financial constraints make it difficult for them to compete with the offers from wealthy clubs like Al Hilal. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges Barcelona faces in the transfer market, where financial limitations often prevent them from acquiring top targets.

Although Cancelo is interested in returning to Barcelona, the financial realities suggest that a move to Al Hilal is increasingly likely. In the meantime, City Report indicates that a deal has been reached, and Manchester City is set to earn 41 million euros from the Portuguese international. Joao Cancelo has a decision to make. Following in the footsteps of his international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, he can make his way to the defending champions of the Saudi Pro League.
