Al-Fayha vs Al-Nassr: Preview

al-nassr

On Tuesday, Al Fayha will be hosting Al-Nassr in the second round of the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League season.  Al-Nassr, who finished 14 points adrift of the league and cup champions Al-Hilal last season, have been struggling with their trophy drought, which has now extended to five years since their last league title in the 2018-19 season.

Their season also ended on a sour note, as they were defeated 4-1 by Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final on August 17, leaving them without silverware for another year. Cristiano Ronaldo was a standout performer for Al-Nassr in the Super Cup, scoring a goal but leaving the field frustrated after the heavy defeat.

In their league opener against Al-Raed, Ronaldo again shone by putting his team ahead. However, Al-Nassr could not maintain their lead and conceded a penalty early in the second half, which Mohamed Fouzair converted for his team, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Both teams will be eager to secure their first win of the new campaign after disappointing starts. Al Fayha experienced a narrow 1-0 loss to Al-Taawoun in their opening match, while Al-Nassr could only manage a 1-1 draw against Al-Raed.

Al-Nassr will be looking to bounce back with a win against Al-Fayha, having had a strong record in their previous encounters. They have won 12 of the 17 matches played between the two teams, including the last four fixtures. On the other hand, Al-Fayha’s season began with a heartbreaker as they conceded a goal in the 95th minute of their match against Al-Taawoun, despite having a numerical advantage since the 81st minute.

Last season, Al-Fayha had a fairly decent home record with four wins, seven draws, and six losses. They will be looking to extend their current four-match unbeaten streak at home and potentially cause an upset against the strong Al-Nassr side.

Team News

Al-Fayha will be without Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru and veteran midfielder Mohammed Abusabaan due to injuries. Fashion Sakala, who netted 19 goals in 31 league appearances last season after transferring from Rangers, is expected to remain in the attack for Al-Fayha.

Al-Nassr, on the other hand, does not have significant injury or suspension issues heading into this match, providing coach Luis Castro with a full range of options. Brazilian forward Talisca, who had missed a significant portion of the previous season due to a thigh injury, made his return in the opening league game and is anticipated to keep his place alongside Ronaldo, Otavio, and Sadio Mane in the attacking lineup.
