Agonizing Chicago Bears Week 4 Injury Wasteland

Chicago Bears

People always say New York is the most difficult home market for athletes to play for. What if I told you it was not New York? It’s Chicago. Particularly, the Chicago Bears must be the hardest organization to play for. Why? According to their most recent injury report, the Chicago Bears might not have anyone available to play against the Rams this Sunday at Soldier Field. You can’t get the dub from the tub!

Who Isn’t Injured in Chicago?

Caleb Williams. The Chicago Bears QB1 catches a lot of heat from fans and analysts about the offense’s performance, but you know what he doesn’t have? The injury bug. Caleb has been sacked 13 times this season and hit many more. He has been beaten up physically and mentally, but guess who hasn’t been on the injury report in 2024? Caleb Williams.

Chicago Bears QB1 has shown toughness so far, and you have to respect that. Chicago is a tough town and Bears fans might appreciate toughness above all other characteristics of an athlete.

DJ Moore isn’t injured. The Chicago Bears star WR hasn’t been on the injury report once this season. Caleb Williams started to find DJ Moore in the 2nd half against the Colts last week and he finished with 10 targets and 8 grabs.

DJ Moore is a professional, and he can help the Bears win real NFL football games if Chicago Bears’ OC Shane Waldron finds real ways to get him the ball more. Waldron needs to get this man in the endzone. DJ Moore is due for a multi-touchdown game. He should eat against a suspect Rams secondary, so the Chicago Bears should feed the man.

Cole Kmet has not even sniffed the injury report so far this year. The Bears’ hometown TE Cole Kmet split time in the first few games with Everett and Lewis, but all that changed in week 3 against the Colts when he tied Odunze for the team lead in targets with 11, hauled in 10 of them for almost broke 100 yards and a touchdown.

Kmet had a low point in pass protection in week 3 when he got beat by the Colts’ rookie edge rusher Laiatu Latu, who got to Caleb and forced a fumble. Cole Kmet is a sure-handed catcher of the football and a heady route runner over the middle where the Bears need help.

Bears Injury Roundup

Safety Kevin Byard popped up on the report today with an injury to his back and was listed as DNP. DT Zacch Pickens is still on the list with the same groin injury that has hobbled him for over a month.

He should have gone in IR, as he has been listed as DNP for two days this week. 2nd String CB Terell Smith has a hip injury and has not practiced all week. Impactful edge rusher Darrell Taylor (Knee/Illness) has not practiced this week. Starting RT Darnell Wright hurt his back and was a DNP Wednesday and LP Thursday. WR Keenan Allen (Heel) has gotten in two limited sessions in back-to-back days this week.

Keenan Allen and the Chicago Bears probably would have been better off if they placed the star wide receiver on IR before Week 1, so we’ll see. Starting DT Andrew Billings (Knee) is going in the wrong direction with an LP session on Wednesday and a DNP practice on Thursday.

FB Khari Blasingame (Hand/Knee) should return this week after getting in limited sessions for two days straight. RG Nate Davis (Groin) is trending toward being healthy as he practiced in full on Thursday. Starting LT Braxton Jones (Knee) and WR Rome Odunze (Hip) have been limited this week and DE Montez Sweat (Elbow) was upgraded to full.

Final Thoughts

With 13 Chicago Bears on the injury list coming off a loss to the Colts that should have been a win – it’s hard to be optimistic. Especially when the LA Rams’ injury report only has three players listed, coming off a game they won against the 49ers, that should have been a loss. The Rams’ injury report is headlined by star WR Cooper Kupp (ankle), who has not practiced all week and is unlikely to play on Sunday. The other players on the Rams report are G Logan Bruss (finger) who has been an FP all week and TE Davis Allen (back) – LP. Maybe that’s the difference a win makes. The Chicago Bears need a win to get right.
