AEW Grand Slam has been one of the bigger AEW Dynamite, Collision, and Rampage shows throughout the year as they have been hosted inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, Queens, New York. However, it was announced during the AEW All In 2024 Zero Hour that AEW Grand Slam will be heading Down Under to Australia on February 15, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Why is AEW Grand Slam going to Australia?
AEW Grand Slam heading to Australia is not too much of a surprise as there was news that the company was scouting a few different locations throughout the continent of Australia for the last week or so. Going to Australia is something that likely would have happened sooner as the company has been doing more international dates after the COVID-19 pandemic. With AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025 set for London on August 24, 2025, the company seems to be more interested in international locations.
AEW Grand Slam has been coming out of Arthur Ashe Stadium since its inception back in 2021. Think about this as a business, we have seen it with other AEW events, the law of diminishing returns returning to the same markets consistently is not drawing as many people. Having the ability to run a stadium show in a brand new market and a larger attendance certainly is more appealing. WWE has been going to international markets for their own Premium Live Events so it only seemed as if it would be a matter of time.
AEW Grand Slam may transition into a pay-per-view event or just be a trio of shows with Dynamite, Rampage and Collision. Either way, this is a massive situation for All Elite Wrestling. This is going to be a massive event for the company after just five years of existence to be running a soccer stadium in Australia and continue running massive events throughout 2025. This could potentially be another show that has 50,000+ people in attendance, just like AEW All In 2024 has shown.
