Fightful Select has reported that a former AEW Trios Champion will be returning to AEW programming very soon. Jay White is ready to return to action after sustaining an injury in the Owen Hart Foundation semi-finals against Adam Page on July 6th, 2024.
The star is officially healthy and will be returning to programming, possibly even making an appearance at AEW All In 2024. However, despite being a top star in NJPW, Jay White has not been treated the same during his time under the AEW banner. That means that fans are expecting a much different run for White, one that will present him as a main-eventer.
Jay White’s Injury
Jay White was hurt during the semi-finals of the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in a match that he lost to Adam Page. Although there were no specifics disclosed, Wrestling Observer reported that Jay suffered a legitimate foot injury. They also stated that the injury was not very significant and White would be back soon.
Despite the report saying that he wouldn’t be gone for long, the Bang Bang Gang was still stripped of the AEW Trios Championships since Jay was not going to be able to defend it. Now, the three other members of the faction, Juice Robinson and The Gunns, will look to win the title back at All In 2024, maybe with the help of Jay himself.
When Will White Return to AEW?
Although reports have stated that the plan for Jay White is to return to programming very soon, there has been no confirmation on when that may be. However, there is good reason to believe that the wrestler will appear in some way at All In 2024 considering that it is the company’s biggest annual show.
There is a low chance of him competing in Wembley this year considering that the Bang Bang Gang already have three wrestlers ready to compete for the Trios Championships. There is, though, a possibility that he has his return match at All Out 2024 two weeks following that, as the faction currently has multiple feuds going on.
It is also important to note that since Juice Robinson returned from injury not too long ago, he has taken White’s spot in the trios’ division alongside Austin and Colten Gunn. This means that Jay now has the opportunity to flourish as a singles star, which is what he should’ve been presented as when he made his debut for the company.
Jay White Needs to Be Presented as a Star
When Jay White joined AEW in April of 2024, fans were expecting him to be booked as one of the top stars of the company. Unfortunately, his run has been somewhat lackluster so far and he has struggled to do anything meaningful as a singles wrestler. It’s clear that fans want to see Jay White booked as a top singles star, and with Juice Robinson having returned from injury earlier this year, it allows the company to do just that. Although he has competed for the AEW World Championship in the past, he has yet to claim singles gold and that should change during his upcoming run.
With AEW being home to as many titles as they have, it shouldn’t be difficult to put one of those on ‘Switchblade’. With the Bang Bang Gang now being portrayed as babyfaces, it would make sense for White to after the Continental Championship, considering his history with current title-holder Kazuchika Okada.
Final Thoughts
Although Jay White has only been away from television for a short amount of time, a lot has changed for him which can result in him being booked much better. Juice Robinson has now taken his spot as a trios wrestler, which means Jay can now wrestle as a singles star. The faction has also changed alignments, which means he gets a chance to be a fan-favorite for the first time in years. Everything is set for Jay White to have a great singles run in, and that’s exactly what should happen.
