Adam Zampa Becomes Australia’s Eighth-Highest ODI Wicket-Taker

Adam Zampa

In ODI cricket, Adam Zampa, a player for the Australia National Cricket Team, accomplished a tremendous feat for his team. As the team’s eighth-highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket history, the leg-spinner passed former pacer Nathan Bracken. In the fourth One-Day International (ODI) of the five-match series against the England National Cricket Team, spinner Adam Zampa of Australia achieved the milestone.

This match took place at London’s Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday, September 27. Adam Zampa was the team’s bright spot in the match, despite Australia’s defeat. Despite being quite costly when using the ball, he was able to secure significant wickets for his side. Ben Duckett and Harry Brook, the captain of England, were removed by the leg-spinner after they both looked dangerous at the crease and smashed half-centuries.

Following his two wickets in the match, Adam Zampa finished with 175 wickets in the ODI and is currently ranked eighth on Australia‘s list of top wicket-takers. With the best results coming in at 5/35, the leg-spinner has picked at an average of 27.99. He also has a five-wicket haul in One-Day Internationals and 11 four-wicket hauls.

With his best figures of 5/47, Adam Zampa overtook Nathan Bracken, who took 174 wickets at an average of 24.36 in 116 ODIs. In ODIs, he also recorded two five-wicket hauls and five four-wicket hauls. The bowling greats Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee, with 380 wickets apiece, are tied for the team’s best wicket total in One-Day Internationals. Since he joined the team in 2016, Adam Zampa has served as the mainstay of the Australian bowling unit.

With his remarkable abilities in the middle overs, he has emerged as a true wicket-taker for the squad and has oftentimes forced the opposition to concede a run. In the fourth ODI against England, Adam Zampa was unable to lead his team to victory. The hosts ensured that the series was tied 2-2 by being extremely strong with the bat and ball.

Australia’s Disappointing Total

Thanks to half-centuries from Ben Duckett (63), Liam Livingstone (62*), and captain (87), the Harry Brook-led team amassed an enormous 312/5 in their 39 overs. In the chase, the opening combination of Travis Head (34) and Mitchell Marsh (28) provided the squad a fantastic start, adding 68 runs between them. As well as Adam Zampa effectively demonstrated his bowling abilities.

However, after that, everything went wrong for them as Brydon Carse (3/36) and Matthew Potts (4/38) wreaked havoc all over the opponents, batting them out for 126 to win the match by an overwhelming 186 runs. Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, talked candidly about the defeat, acknowledging that England was superior. He cheered the opposition bowlers as well. Marsh declared:

“Fair play to England, they put us under a lot of pressure. They completely outplayed us. Probably a bit above par, Liam Livingstone played a gem of an innings. In a run-chase like that, you need one or two big partnerships. England bowled well, we lost wickets continuously. That’s cricket. It’s going to be a great experience (final ODI), we obviously would have liked to wrap up the series in the last couple of games. England has come back really strongly. We are going to Bristol, excited for the opportunity,” he explained.

Final Thoughts

Because of his steady play and value to the squad, Adam Zampa has become Australia’s eighth-highest wicket-taker in ODI history. Zampa proved his worth as a bowler even in the defeat, as he was able to remove important players such as Harry Brook and Ben Duckett. But England’s bowling assault presented Australia with many obstacles, as seen by their batting collapse. Australia has to bounce back and play better in the last game to win the series since the series is currently tied.
